Why are you adding double bonds to the carbons in the cyclic ring instead of just adding hydrogens? This is for the example at five minutes...

Dear professor Christopher Barile Thank you so much for your attached video , but I do not understand why γredz /γoxy is equal is it possible to clear me. I understand γ represents the charge transfer coefficients of the redox reactions. Specifically, γred represents the charge transfer coefficient of the reduction reaction, while γoxy represents the charge transfer coefficient of the oxidation reaction. In many cases, such as in some symmetric systems or when the electrode process is reversible, the charge transfer coefficients of the reduction and oxidation reactions are equal. Mathematically, this is represented as γred = γoxy. This equality implies that the rate of the forward (oxidation) reaction is equal to the rate of the backward (reduction) reaction, and the overall process is reversible. When γred = γoxy, it simplifies certain electrochemical equations and allows for easier analysis of the system. However, it's important to note that in some cases, the charge transfer coefficients may not be equal, especially in asymmetric systems or when the electrode process is not fully reversible. Is it correct my attitude from your attached video. Marzieh

thank you this is super clear! I was very confused on what conjugacy classes are but splitting them into 'a transform on the x/y/z' vector makes sense. I am trying to do this for the octahedral group, and I guess I am still a little confused on how we group these things (for example I know xy, yz, xz is one class, but I have trouble justifying it)? I don't know if I am being clear.
@alecat99906 ай бұрын
I think I also always thought of it as connecting to the trace of a matrix in that class, but maybe thats wrong
@christopherbarile25396 ай бұрын
Glad this helps. When you see (xy, yz ,xz) together, it means that all three functions transform together under a single irreducible representation. That is not the case for any of the irreducible representations in C2v in which all of the vectors are one dimensional. Check out my other derivation videos. I have not done one for Oh point group, but I have one on Td character table, which is mathematically similar and also has those three functions transforming together.
@christopherbarile25396 ай бұрын
The trace of the transformation matrices are where the characters in the character table come from.
