From trekking for a couple of weeks a year before in the Himalayan foothills, for my second trip to India/Nepal I decided to train and go further--perhaps Everest Base Camp or the Mustang Region. I was 70 years old, felt fine, tai chi for years (could jump, kick over my head in the air, land softly in the same spot), My primary care doctor had pushed a statin on me for a number of years, and when I sought a cardiologist for a second opinion, he pushed harder yet. I questioned my need for lowering my LDL (245 or so) with a statin--even pointing out that my lipid ratios were great, and that these two risk predictors contradicted each other. My TG/HDL was 61/88. I was strongly fear-mongered into the statin...and that was with 7 months the end of my fortunate life. Is there anything I can do now, 12 years later, to improve my health? (Dr. Redford, you are one of my health care heroes, and like many others, I'm grateful to you and all physicians bringing science-based care to patients.)

Very sad to say that Dr.Franz's speech on his findings is firstly very vague and misleading any athletes. So his findings could be true for non athlete genaral people whose RHR is low . It is actually serious abd must seek medical advice immediately. Bcz such people not doing any Anaerobic /Intensive workouts RHR should not be low.?!

As a retired Internal Medicine physician who counseled many patients and their families about the risks and benefits of procedures that had been recommended by friends, family, their pastors, gurus, the internet, and the specialists who "offered" whatever procedure it was supremely challenging to help worried and needy people understand that just because something CAN be done does not mean it SHOULD be done. Take as an extreme example, for instance, the person who says, "Do whatever you can" which means they are highly likely to die in the ICU on a ventilator when the probability that they would end up any other way was essentially nil. In my view it all comes down to educating patients about the true risks of a given procedure + honest and realistic expectations about THAT patient's expected post-procedure recovery and outcome. And this TAKES TIME on the part of the surgeon or other person performing that procedure. Sadly, too often that time is not taken and because it CAN be done it IS done. Any tool that increases the chances patients getting a useful, positive outcome from any procedure instead of a "no benefit" or negative outcome is a good thing in my book...

Surprise, surprise, it isn’t the low HR itself that is preventative, it is just a marker for other things. So you can’t get the benefits of a low HR simply taking drugs that will reduce the HR. You need to do the work… it’s the work that is preventative.

Conventional medical theory ASSUMES that the flow characteristics of blood are identical to those of water, but mammalian blood is a “non-Newtonian” fluid, that exhibits exponential DECREASES in flow resistance with increasing velocity, while water is a “Newtonian” fluid that exhibits exponential INCREASES in flow resistance with increasing velocity. This is the key to understanding hemodynamic physiology. This is explained by the unique morphology of mammalian red blood cells. Their tiny size, neutral buoyancy, and bi-concave shape causes them to spontaneously form “stacks” or “Roleaux” when blood is accelerated in arteries. This eliminates turbulent flow patterns, and therefore abolishes turbulent flow resistance, so that blood flow is free of turbulent flow friction. Turbulence is the sole source of pipe/artery flow friction.The absence of dynamic flow friction is the secret of superior mammalian exercise tolerance compared to reptiles, archosaurs, and amphibians.Exercise conditioning proliferates capillaries in muscles, which reduces static flow resistance, and improves cardiac efficiency, cardiac output, and oxygen delivery to organs and tissues. A more detailed explanation can be found in my book. www.stressmechanism.com.

A sub particle of LDL called Lp-a is what initiates plaque build-up and your level of it is considered an independent risk factor. Two people with identical cholesterol levels but the one well over 30mg/dl can be 2-3 times greater risk. Glad I got mine checked I'm at 20mg/dl. CRP is a marker for inflammation. It barely can be categorized as a root cause for CVD. Lpa has an important role in wound healing, and 8-10 days after a surgery you can see an up-regulation of up to 4x ! Of course it gets elevated if plaques rupture and platelets get activated... To categorize it as a root cause for CVD is absolutely ridiculous. The correct questions are: what causes the inflammation of the endothelium and the artery wall? ... and :NO it is NOT because total C is high... gosh that is outdated like hell... but what to expect by someone who still believes the lies constructed by the F-study... And the second question is, why are there lesions of the vessels and too much activated platelet in the first place? The answer in both cases is oxidation. Oxidation by what? Glucose under the condition of a lack of glutathione . The maching diet: >50% Carbs, >40% of the fats saturated, >5% omega6-6, too much protein, and deficiency in B-vitamins. Additional poor microbiom and after 10..20y you find what you want to find. Those are the root causes. True, there is a genetic factor for Lpa. And? the role of Lpa is what? prevent a clot from dissolving in wound healing. If you don't have plaques, or vessel damage, woh cares about LPa? It is even just the other way round: if you do not have enough Lpa, the changes to die from cancer increase. Wow, keep being proud for FIFTEEN years of followup, nice data, perhaps, mindlessly analyzed

@RHt09
@RHt09 Жыл бұрын
Nothing you've said is correct. What an embarassing analysis. The role of Lpa isn't preventing a clot from dissolving. Low levels of Lpa don't related to cancer mortality. The role of Lp(a) is directly in atherosclerosis. It is a highly atherogenic particle. hsCRP is a marker for higher risk of CAD per the Jupiter trial. The multiple studies he cites showing a causal relationship between high Lp(a) and MACE events were not measured in teh setting of acute plaque rupture. Why are you even babbling on about that?

Fascinating insights (no pun intended) into the arterial environment with such excellent optical capacity built into the catheters. I didn't get the mg daily dosage of rosuvastatin used in the first (12 month) study but even with 40mg in trial participants for 13 months seems to be slightly short of a period necessary to witness measurable changes in coronary artery stenosis and plaque formations in the 48mm study area. Great work.

I am skeptical of the need for this type of research...if my valve needs replacing, I would not accept some doctor telling me that I do not really need the TAVR procedure. This procedure is less stressful for the patient anyway...so why not use it, even if the patient may be considered "weak"?....is this study aiming to please insurance companies, who do not want to pay for the TAVR operation?
