I would blame the Indian selection mentality for the obvious unfairness manifest in almost every decision they have made to select or deselect him e.g. in the last world cup, they turned this world class batsman into a wicketkeeper batsman and, despite his excellent performance, ignored him for nearly a year. When finally selected as a batsman in the test series, he was sent in to bat at no 6, a position he - i reckon, never felt comfortable. India will never become a formidable test side until they stick with classy batsman like K L Rahul , regardless of his ' bad patches 'z

Batting has became harder?? IMHO, the DRS has helped batsmen more than the bowlers if not equally. Umpires were bad back in Sachin's era. Now they think twice before giving out due to DRS embarrassment. But I agree, Kohli has one more test series in him and he should play domestic cricket to be considered for position in Team India.

Batting under DRS has become harder not because howlers have been eliminated, but due to the technology, an umpire is willing to give decisions that they just wouldn't give before DRS. That's also brought about a fundamental change in batting techniques, like how once upon a time coaches asked a batsman to keep their bat and pad together on defence, but because now technology can catch if the ball hit the bat or the pad first, batsmen have started to defend balls in front of their pads. Closer decisions now go in the favour of the bowlers way more now than earlier when "benefit of the doubt" usually rested with the batsmen.

We dont have a readymade no 3, all existing Gills, Rahuls, Gaikwads etc are tailor-made openers...so naturally asking them grind it out when their temprament is otherwise seems stupid. Unless Aussies play horrendous cricket, i see us losing this 3-0 minimum since nobody will last 150+ deliveries in Australia

It's ipl captaincy... He was free flowing batter... Full of confidence... No worries... Became captain of Punjab.. Had to change his style of batting... Got criticism. Lost confidence. Same thing happened to pant. Capacity pressure and unwanted criticism. Pant got his confidence in Test... Kl got in odi.

As an outsider looking in, I believe India would do a disservice by not including KL Rahul in the team if fit. He's one of my favorite Indian players to watch bat. Just too talented despite his inconsistency.

Virat should have been dropped a year back. Rohit is interested in the name of hitman. He was less interested. They avoided Dulip trophy though being advised. Problem is that we are beset with so called playing legends. They are good players but casual towards match practice. Most Indian innings have been 50-55 overs .. Even 40 or less .

remember kohli was capt. in that test match in australia. when india was bowl out for 36. the absence off t nine frount line players miss rest off t series. it was younger players an debutants, to win in australia.

Yes and no. Yes, a lot of players were unavailable, especially for the last match, but the batting also rallied around the experienced core of Pujara and Rahane. There's no substitute for experience.

One thing that no one mentions nd although i agree with most points u made but there is a difference of day nd night between the shot making abilities nd defense of pujara nd dravid while dravid not only adapted to odis he scored 10000 runs there on the other hand he was effective against spin nd against pace i can think of bounce that annoyed him the most apart from that he didn't struggle to make runs ever, while pujara do not play spin that well also his shot making abilities r really not good nd that became the biggest point of criticism that he cannot continue the momentum given to him by openers
