The ventilation on the roof seems to have an emergency escape port. You might not want to place a solar panel above it. I might be wrong. Very nice camper concept and execution.
@CyberTruckOne4 күн бұрын
The roof vent rough opening is 14" x 14", thats before any fan is installed. This is defiantly not for egress. The side European style window could certainly be used for escape. The good news, is that you don't ride in the back of this while traveling, so most of that risk is already mitigated. Thanks for the concern anyway. Happy holidays.

In the beginning, you said charge trailer from Cybertruck. Later you said charge Cybertruck from trailer. Remove the firewood box, install AC unit there. Don't mess with the existing house battery system. Simply plug in a large portable power station/supply. Have you seen the Lighthouse RV/trailer?
@CyberTruckOne4 күн бұрын
We will be able to push power in either direction back and forth from camper to CT. Whatever the situation requires. We may install an AC split near the fire wood box or we may do a portable one through a window, since AC usage for us over the last 7 years of camping has been very limited. Have seen the Lighthouse, was at the grand opening. Super cool, I love the concept. That camper in my view is more for glamping than off roading. It's also about 250k. Out of most peoples budget. I wish them well and suspect they will do well in their market.

I have been to the factory in China where many of the Australian campers are built. Wondering about this one? It looks a lot better built than what I have seen coming from Asia. I found them to be a little on the crude side and a little heavy. I did a bit of research regarding charging my Rivian from my RV batteries, pulling that trailer we can only get about 20 miles, but maybe enough to get you out of a jam. Looks great behind your Tesla.
@CyberTruckOne4 күн бұрын
We hope to see better numbers with some modifications. You could also stay longer, drive slower, detach camper to get to charging, etc. Hoping good sized solar array will help, also shooting for 240v charging. Regarding Asia builds. Like everything, I think you can find good and bad quality everywhere. iPhone is made in Asia, fantastic product. Depending upon the Australian company and the camper model, different levels or all levels of work are still being done in Australia.

Dude, 35" tires kill vehicle efficiency and its all to do with vehicle height and rotating mass. Bigger ties increase the height of the vehicle which requires more energy. Larger tires+wheels have a significantly higher rotating mass than smaller tires+wheels. It actually doesnt matter if you are powered by gas or electrons. Both methods require more energy to move. Jeep wranglers that go from 28" to 35" lose a lot of the mpg because of this. The same happens with people who do the same with sprinter vans, they lose about 35-50 miles of range per tank. Aside from that, thanks for sharing your vision and talking through your thinking, I enjoyed listening.

This is a super cool project. I wonder if cost wise it works out to be cheaper or more expensive than just getting an electric travel trailer like the Lightship or Pebble that already has a large battery pack built in that propels itself so there is minimal range loss? Of course those don't look as rugged for more off road adventures

If you can rig up your solar panels to tilt when you're parked in order get a better angle of inclination to the sun, then you will drastically improve the solar efficiency as opposed to having them sit flat.

@@CyberTruckOneactually the way you have it is perfect, ive done it many ways and its better for convenience to always have it flat on the back BUT what i added was a solar blanket which can be folded up and stored and brought out and put at any angle; so having both in conjunction is the best of convenience and flexbility
