The company where you got the mids from, do they make some for ironhead sportsters as well?
@rebuildingmatt247Ай бұрын
Tbh honest man I’m not sure I think some companies sell regular mid controls for iron heads ..look up main drive on instagram or lnsplitblvd I think he started making his own high mid pegs on instagram as well see if he can adjust em for the ironhead
@dbdevkc Жыл бұрын
Those are some awesome looking mids. Maybe a bit too high for me but I love that stance. I've been looking for something like that - that can be used with a closed (and sealed/isolated) primary and my foot clutch. Those are the only one's I've seen that would work. Just not sure with them being that high. I get it though, to work with a closed primary and be lower, the support bar would need to bend back down after clearing the top of the primary, and the pegs would be sticking out way far.
@rebuildingmatt247 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the mids are definitely “high mids” I’ve ridden the bike here and there recently and personally I can handle them being this high but I understand most wouldn’t ,your hips could easily cramp depending on your flexibility lol…but they make other kits I believe you can buy where the mid controls go inside the open belt primary you could try
@dbdevkc Жыл бұрын
@@rebuildingmatt247 I'm running a closed primary on a shovel, so it would take a modification of the high mids. Or I just use the original factory mids that, on the brake side the bracket bolted to the 4-speed trans kicker cover studs, and on the primary side the shifter arm (in my case, the clutch pedal arm) ran through the primary case with bushings and seals. Not a big fan or all that pressure being put on the primary covers - and even on the kicker cover studs.
@rebuildingmatt247 Жыл бұрын
@dbdevkc yeah I hear ya. Check out this link they have 4” mids like this i don’t know if you ever seen that way before prismmotorcycles.com/products/4-mid-pegs
Where did you get those mid controls I’ve been looking for some and if I can’t find any I’m about to attempt to crudely fab some up

@@rebuildingmatt247 Hell yeah I’ve seen their web page but it says sold out so I’m gonna make me an insta account and get them. I didn’t wanna rip off that sick idea but support it. Literally the best simplest design I’ve ever seen. I’m a small dude 5’4 so those will be super badass for me to have.
@rebuildingmatt247 Жыл бұрын
Yeah man I got mine when it said sold out too,send him a direct message and see what he says ,I just messaged him and ordered thru DMs he was like “yeah man I’m actually finishing up a set right now “ and boom ordered those

Good swap, man! As far as what to do with it; do what needs to be done first, because what can be done can break you before you can afford what it needs.

1. I've seen this before, a sportster is NOT a Shovelhead. The heads look similar, but they are very different. 2. The sportster and its predecessor the K-model were to combat the British bikes in the 50's. British bikes had right side shift. All of them were used for flat track racing which was left hand turns, and as you said, they put their left foot down in the turns. Good vid. I'm currently working on a 65 sportster basket case. Would love to get my hands on a pre-74 Shovelhead. Have fun with it!

Oh yeah definitely man I said that as a joke definitely huge difference in a IronHead and a Shovelhead 🤣 but thank you for looking out and thanks for that information! That’s sweet man I bet that’s ganna be a sick build! And yeah I definitely can’t wait to build this Shovelhead I wanted a generator shovel but I’m definitely happy with this 76 🙏🏽

@@rebuildingmatt247 Didn't mean to sound grumpy. Last weekend I drove 2 hours to look at a "78 Shovelhead" that turned out to be a sportster. When I explained the difference, the guy got mad at me. Too many people have no idea what they've got.

Reinforcing the frame,it adds more rigidity to the frame really since the Cummins motor has a lot of torque and what not it’ll pretty much stiffen up the frame so it doesn’t bend,twist,collapse or what have you for example

Why did you have to support the cab with the brackets inside?
@rebuildingmatt2472 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty much a endoskeleton for the cab so when I took it off it doesn’t warp or miss align anything because I had that fire wall cut and doors off,leaves it kind of less structurally sound
