Can you do a breakdown and lesson on how to pick like Wade Mainer? His 2 finger picking is some of the best i have heard!

Im a fiddler trying to learn fiddle tunes on banjo in stroke style. I cannot figure out from regular instructional videos whem i am supposed to hit the drone string. Down beat? Up beat? Every other beat? Between beats? When theres a break in eighth notes? Do i just need to play less melody compared to the fiddle? Thanks Matt! Eventually i will pay for a real lesson, but funds are earmarked for my needy kids at this point in my life.

Thanks, Matt. I hope you don't mind me asking a question. I love the sound of 2 finger but would like to use it as backup. All the teaching seems to arrangements of tunes. Is backing up with 2 finger even doable? Thanks for any help.

This was so worth the wait! Beautiful playing. His comments about the freedom to experiment and mess up are so freeing. I also love how Matt had almost childlike wonder at times in hearing his hero and mentor play. I loved every minute of this video.
