I first saw them in the warehouse in New Orleans. ‘70 or ‘71. I was in New Orleans for an AT&T school!! They were awesome than and only were better everytime. I saw the tour in Morgan city Louisiana but I’m not sure when. Rough life and my memories are getting dimmer each year!!! I’ve seen many of the greats and Allman Bros and Eric Clapton are the living end for me!!!! And I got to see Duane and berry twice!!!!

I don't live that far from Morgan City. Extremely doubtful the tour went to MC. New Orleans is much more likely.

What a moving song that was 1st performed by Gregg during his Gregg Allman Tour '74. May he found that love, friendship & a home beyond this earth. Thank you for 50 yrs of music

Gregg said this song and Queen of Hearts were his favorites to write.Speaks of the numerous rehabs and loss of his brother and many marriages gone. He needs love,friendship and a home or he is all alone tells it all. Ain't never been so clear, it is all up to you. Great song showing the emotional pain and life's ups and downs.

someone commented that greggs ex wife ...sher...wrote oncomming traffic..and not gregg.....but if you listen to gregg... at the beginning of this video...he sais...heres a song i wrote in 1974....are u saying that gregg is a liar?..not only that....im afraid that cher...isnt capable of writing anything like this...with so much meaning.(..GYPSYS...TRAMPS AND THEIVES ) is all that she is capable of...and she probably didnt write that either... .....this song is all gregg....ps.....do you really think he would have picked this song...at his induction into the rock hall of fame....if he had no part in writing it??..come on....get with it..........
@kimh55663 жыл бұрын
Gregg had numerous ex-wives. His second wife, Janice Blair (Mulkey) Allman, is listed as co-writer for this song on some album credit sites, including Wikipedia. Other sites list G. Allman alone. Janice was a singer and easily could have contributed. Apparently, music is in her family. Her brother is Ron Blair, a bassist for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.

Cher had nothing to do with this song. It was written 2 years before they got together.

GREGG had the rare gift of desplaying his life experiences in his songs..........just think.....this song came to him while he was in a traffic jam.. on the highway...one tuesday morning...in his life......in 1974....probably on his way to the store......maybe on his way to a rehersal.....what was going thru his mind here ??obviously he was troubled..about something....doughting his ability to cope with his inner dark moments....with no one to help him..through......standing on the highway....seems like no one is.. going my way....maybe i was waiting on the wrong side of the road?...cause nobodys here...to help me....have i been waiting on the wrong side ...of the road??..doesnt anyone care which way i go???..i guess i dont give a damn either...?where are my friends......now that i need them.....maybe he was thinking about his brother duanes untimely death....only 3 years before .....swept under a truck.on his motorcycle.....so suddenly....and duane was gone.....maybe ..a moment at duanes funeral...looking down at his brother....now passed on....thats enough to bring any man down....then barry oakley died the same way.....6 months later.....how can you put that past you...and move on....like everything is now alright??..im sorry...but its all too much for my tired eyes to see.......those are the moments that gave him the right to sing the blues......there are so many roads...that we may choose....some your bound to win....and some you will loose.....but it has never been so clear...that it is all up to you... all up to you.....i only wish that gregg would have had my phone number on him...back then.....to call on..... gregg had the right to sing the blues....probably .more than most of us...and we all can relate to those moments in our own lives...... one thing we all know about gregg...is that he had the ability to put it all down in some of the most meaningfull songs that were ever written.....gregg left us with so many awesome songs that we can relate to in our own way......... he relied on lifes experiences..that is what fueled him to be the best blues singer of our generation... ..to be a blues singer..you have to live the blues..to be able to sing it from your soul.....and draw on those memories.......he ..had the ability to put them into words ...... songs...that we will take with us to our dying day....."".tell me....when is my ship... done comming....we all wonder...when will my life come to an end??..what will happen to me when i die??. .such a beautiful peice of music...it has become my anthem..of all my life experiences......

Masterpiece and brilliant choice for this event. Love that he's at the piano. This is powerful redemption for his appearance at the RRHOF induction ceremony which he said embarrassed him and helped him finally get sober. If he's not in the national Songwriter's Hall of Fame, he should be. RIP Gregg Allman

Tuesday nighttime, standing on the highway Seems like no one, no one, is going my way yeah Was I waiting on the wrong side of the road I just don't give a damn, which way I go, yeah Tell me where has my faith gone Has it walked out on me Or does it still lie, somewhere inside of me Your just to close, for my tired eyes to see, yeah Tell me when, when is my ship gonna come in I ain't cold I ain't hungry, gotta little money to spend But a man cannot live oh no, on riches alone He needs love friendship and a home Without these he stands alone, oh There are some many roads, which you been to Or somebody by you win, others you will lose Lord it ain't never been so clear It is always, lord it is always, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah What is all love to you All up to you now baby

Tuesday found me standing on the highway Seems like no one no one is going my way But I just don't give half a damn Which way I go Because I'm waiting on the wrong side of the road. Tell me WHERE, where has my faith gone? Has it walked out on me? Does it still lie somewhere inside of me? Your just too close for my tired eyes to see.... Tell me when Tell me WHEN is my ship gonna come in I ain't cold...I ain't hungry Even got a little money to spend But a man can not live on on riches alone. He needs love, friendship and a home... Or he is all alone. There are so many roads from which you may choose. Some you are gonna win and yeah Others you are Bound to lose... Awwwwwwwww....but it ain't never been so clear That it is all That it is all up to you... judygirl version Love this song. Love the words too. Sorry for any typos. You did a fabulous job. He did it on Dan Rather's show and here and on his the GA tour album, and a couple of of other recordings. He changes adds 1/2 to the damn here, and I have loved this song since he wrote it. He always opens by saying "this is a little composition I wrote..." So, I think he liked/likes this song too...

It's not about Cher, it's not about the tragic deaths, it's not about the drugs and drinking. It's about that very, very soulful singing. Damn the American public for seeing it otherwise.

You are so right. Glad you wrote it. It's about that beautiful voice and a soulful man. Glad i met him back in 1982,we both lived in northern Calif. Shy man. Now he's on his new journey and no more pain. Peace
@judygirl31026 жыл бұрын
I believe it is about himself..."I'm just to close for my tired eyes to see..." He is talking to his own self in his own head...that is why the tense changes and the person..from 1st person to third, etc...He is thinking out loud. (aloud, if you want to be picky). "it ain't never been so clear that it is all up to you..." Just thinking aloud...nothing in the world to do with Cher...or any other wife. "I just don't give 1/2 a damn (1/2 changed and added delightfully), which way "I" go" "I" ain't cold I ain't hungry, even got a little money to spend..." Examples of the writer Gregory L. Allman thinking aloud, when we think to ourselves or aloud, the tenses (past present and future) change as do the person (1st-I; 2nd=you; 3rd=he/her/his, etc). I rest me case.
