Its pretty specific but this song just reminds me of some guy who goes out to a bar in a city like Chicago in the middle of winter, maybe towards the holidays. Everyones having a good time with friends and dates but not this guy, he just lost his girlfriend, they decided it was better they split and be friends. Now, this guy isnt bad looking, hes caught the eye of a few women even, but he has no interest in them, he misses his ex dearly and cant stop thinking about her. He babysits a few drinks, but towards midnight, he randomly gets a message from an old fling asking what he was doing and that she was in the city. Maybe it was the changing of his relationship status, he cant figure out why she messaged him but he needs to get over his ex. They chat back and forth, before finally she texts him the address of her hotel and invites him over. The man pays and weaves through the crowd of now drunk and joyous people. He catches a cab and heads to the hotel, up to the room he was given, the door is cracked open. He steps in and the lights are off but he can make out his former fling from the light provided by the huge ceiling to floor windows behind her and the light of the city coming through. Its starting to snow outside. The man thinks of his ex one last time and how all of that is just gone; he closes his eyes briefly and sighs, then steps forward... If youve read all this, im truly surprised. One, this song is 9 years old at the time of this comment and two, its a really weird and probably super detailed thought process for a song.
