such a good haul! my favourite band is korn so every time I go thrifting I try to look for them, but most of the thrift shops here have mainly classical and Dutch cd's 😅 my brother once found THREE korn cd's while in germany though, and brought them home for me. I was literally dancing from happiness

Because there is Google where you can take a photo of the item, whoever is pricing is looking at the first things that come up and use that as their price guide, not bothering to go and check the sold items to find the real value.

Aren’t they getting ridiculously high. They get these things for free. They obviously don’t want to have a quick turn over. And the amount of damaged collectables that Savers have and asking top dollar is over the top. I have only been going to savers for less than a year and I buy a lot of collectable China and I noticed trios they sold for $12.99 are now $14.99 so it’s no longer worth me buying them as I don’t make any money. Waste of time. And so many are damaged. I put them in my trolley everything I’m interested in and then go and sit down and go over them with a fine tooth comb. Not paying top dollar for damage. Savers need to come to their senses as majority of people who go in are people who are interested in making a few extra dollars but it’s getting to the stage it’s not worth it.

I do feel the resellers have helped to inflate thrift store prices. thrift stores want to get in on the profits that many resellers boast about. yes, it does make it difficult for someone shopping for themselves to find a good price on items. rents and wages have gone up, so this also increases prices. there was a time when you didn’t want people to know you shopped thrift, now it’s al over the internet. it also seems to associated with bragging rights. buy low, sell high. it’s now a business.
@vexthrifts
@vexthrifts 11 күн бұрын
wages have absolutely not increased lol and why should we blame individuals for something getting popular when it’s the greedy CEOs who are in charge of keeping things affordable for their customers. I think it’s great that thrifting is so popular because it’s incredibly sustainable for the earth and the stigma of buying second hand clothes is basically gone, I think everyone should be able to thrift and if thrift store prices get so high it then discourages people from second hand shopping and they end up going back to Shein and fast fashion stores.

i totally see what ur saying and at the same time, that’s the difference between charity shops and thrift stores. places like savers and goodwill are for-profit businesses, so they sell things at higher and higher prices literally just because they can. they never cared about people in need, it was literally always for money and it’s no different now. In my experience, charity shops that are actually affiliated with a specific cause or charity have very fair prices and that money goes to a good cause, not a big corporation

I'm in MI, USA and I've figured out the best place to find stuff cheaply are church rummage sales - a lot of the older people (usually ladies) that run these don't know what is valuable as far as clothes, and they are coming at it from a charity point of view, so they do bag sales where you can fill a bag for $7. I also see lower income families there that do their seasonal shopping for themselves and their kids exclusively at these sales. It ends up being like 50 cents an item. You might want to see if any churches do this in your area!

I went to goodwill yesterday, I’ve lost a lot of weight and needed clothes for fall. I just looked at pants/trousers and found 7 pair including a genuine leather pair for a total of $42usd. I looked up a retail price on 5 of the pair and they retailed for $1000. I can’t complain!

Not having resellers means their products will stay longer in the store, and eventualy they will need storage. Also more thrash will be left to undeveloped countries as less people would be able to shop for them. Resellers win money but they alocate unwanted stuff very quickly so that is good for the planet and many times for the thrifstore.
@vexthrifts
@vexthrifts 12 күн бұрын
I agree ! I don’t believe in overconsumption of thrifted clothes and things because there is such an overwhelming amount of stuff at these stores and if nobody buys them they become landfill so I really don’t care if resellers buy up stuff and then it’s replaced immediately anyway (although sometimes reseller prices are insane but I just don’t buy them)

as much as creators have made thrifting more popular, the issue is still that the company is greedy. SO MUCH clothes still goes to landfill like these places do not have a shortage of clothes. More people reusing clothes that already exist is a positive. I understand you personally wanting to thrift less because of how insidious they are being tho.
