I saw him on PBS 1971, right after I got home from Vietnam. That's when I learned to play the guitar

My Uncle Allan introduced me to John Prine at a young age and he would play his cassettes every weekend for me and my family or friends to listen to. John Prine was the soundtrack to my youth and later my early life. Thank you uncle Allan Coady thank you. You inspired me to play guitar

Prine was my favorite artist and at one point I kn ew and could play every song on his first four albums. His b est years were frin 1970 to 1980 . After that, his songs weren't as deep and less god like if you will. It's a shame he felt like he had to keep performing after all his health issues. Here, for instance, he sounds like a drunken sailor. Happily, tho, I have the memory of those early Massey Hall performances, when it was easy to believe that yes indeed, here was the next Bob Dylan. My brother had brain cancer and insisted on teaching till the end. I believe that hurts the legacy when your physics teacher craps in his pants during class and doesn't even know it. That was his last day teaching for I was called in to carry him away. Even though he was retired, he ke[t insisting till the end that he was going to class That's brain cancer for ya

John, born six months before me, danced ahead to leave a bit earlier, crossed many bridges i hadnt seen, always stayed by my side, though i burned my own brightly.
