Pronunciation: Albeniz is (approximately) "ahl-BAY-neeth: or "ahl-BAY-nees" depending on the type of Spanish accent, Falla is "FAHL-yah" or "FAHy-yah" and Granados is "grah-NAH-dhohs" ("dh" being the "th" sound of "then," not "think").

You make no mention of Book II of the Well-Tempered Clavier. The pieces in this part are comparable in ease or difficulty to those in the first part. There are also the Italian Concerto and the Overture in the French Style.

Didn't his piano company merge with Collard, later to become Collard & Collard? I have this in the back of my mind. I like Clementi's music and listen to it quite frequently.

I haven't done any exams yet, and I don't really want to. I'm happy to follow my teachers' advice and learn things at my own pace. I am playing the first 10 pieces of Burgmuller but am transposing them into the keys with up to 3 sharps or flats. My ear is improving but am frustrated that some things that should be simple are a challenge. But my teacher says that playing the piano is difficult and to keep persisting.

Merci. I have a simplified version in a Yamaha songbook and tried it once, but didn't understand it. This helped.

When I started the piano after my retirement, every musician friend said to start with Bach. Two and three voice chorales and menuets, some preludes. I want to learn inventions by playuing them with one hand. When I have gotten my chops, I will then tackle Taylor Swift music.

Funny that this was the subject of my lesson today, since I am starting with a new teacher. I have a Bach Chorale Sightreading book, which starts with 2 part, then goes to three part and finally the four part chorales. I'll eventually work in Preludes and do Inventions with one hand. Only after I have a better mastery, then we can work in some Taylor Swift.

Hey Allysia, so I've been watching your videos to help with my rcm exams and I love them. You really know your stuff and it's help me out a lot. I did have a request for a new video. I was wondering if you could do one on prepping for an rcm analysis exam? I know this is a complex exam, but part of the problem is there is zero resources to help. If you could that would be amazing, if not, no worries.

At least Czerny Etudes (exercises) can be performed in a recital. Hanon is simply too mechanical to be played anywhere except at home for practice. The same can be said for the Suzuki "Twinkle Variations' originally written by Shinichi Suzuki for violin. Whichever instrument you play these on is going to sound borderline between exercises & repertoire pieces but Suzuki wanted beginner students to perform Twinkle V as the first piece in their first recital. It's like a piano teacher telling a student he/she must perform a Hanon piece in the first recital sort of thing. Of course no teacher would ask a student to do Hanon as a recital piece. Hanon was a teacher than a composer. His exercises were intended for practice than performed on stage. Not against playing Hanon except wouldn't do all the exercises at once. You come to a piece that require a specific technique you'd practice the Hanon piece for improving that technique.

Thanks again for a really great video! I'm having to put together a presentation of all of the different eras of Western Classical, and your 'video essays' on the periods have had the perfect amount of information, and are presented in an engaging format. I especially like it when you present an example piece so, as a viewer, I can immediately pick up on the features you mean.
