I first saw this episode the night it was originally transmitted and it still makes laugh as much now as it did then nearly fifty years ago,
Dave Allen and Ken Dodd were masters of their profession. They were never rude, or insulting, towards their audience. Ken told us once that it’s the audience who pays his wages! 😂

A lovely chap, Dave Allen. As funny as they come and a huge contributor to good Anglo-Irish relations. Always hilarious while never condescending, vicious, or smutty. Bless his clever cotton socks.

Being of Irish parentage after they moved to the Eastend of London and before retiring back to Donegal, I've lifelong experience of these language differences. So being an Irish raised cockney, I don't know if this is more, or if it's less funnier to me than to the just English or just Irish, having been neither. The non-Irish may have to read that twice. But if an Englishman ever called me an Irishman, the implication mightn't be complementary.....whereas if my father called me an Englishman it was definate and delivered as or with a kick in the arse. To my family, and probably Dave Allen, the joke was the irony of English jokes about Irish stupidity.
