A little less than a year ago my friend went through with suicide, and this movie trying to be a “psa” is absolutely disgusting. This doesn’t portray the thoughts that go through your head, nor how people would react. Especially publicly announcing what he would be doing and living a chill life until he realizes “damn I gotta go through with this okay let me drop everything I’m doing and fucking die” When my friend got out of the mental hospital, he called up our mutual friend which he’s known longer and ranted to her about how he has school exams he missed and how he’s falling behind because he had to spend a month or whatever in a hospital. The next day everyone got the news that he was dead. Something I realized many months later is that he didn’t call me because he understood that I would catch on and try to persuade him to stay, and he’d be right. I would drop everything and go to his house which is over an hour away from me if it means he could be alive right now. Our classmates treated him as a weird kid because of his nonchalantness and inability to care for what’s happening, and when we got to school everyone suddenly cared and became therapists analyzing a situation they knew absolutely nothing about. It was disgusting to be there. I was the only one in my class that went to his funeral because I knew I had to be there for his mother and older sister which had to organize the event all by herself. It hurts to this day to deal with things like this, and I think about him every day, hoping he’s alright where he is now. It’s not supposed to be “unpopular kid becomes popular and gets the girl”, it’s so much more than that, and so much more painful. I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone organizing the movie never experienced those thoughts or met a person with those tendencies. I hope everyone reading this realizes that there are people who care, and by doing something like that passes on your suffering to other people instead of just ending your own. People aren’t going to sit around and be sad for a few days and move on. It takes years to heal, and in some cases you never heal from something like that. Please tell your friends you love them and will unconditionally be there for them, even if it doesn’t seem like they’re suicidal. It can change someone’s life, and that sentence or conversation is more valuable than whatever this excuse for a psa is

Hello Contra! I just came across this video out of the blue, and man, I know I shouldn't, but I was feeling hella bad for Marshall. Especially that attempt scene, watching everybody else's horrified faces, honestly almost got me choked up. Now I've never attempted, I'm not suicidal, but that hurt to watch, to know that there's people out that that have succeeded with their attempts in the same way Marshall had attempted, it breaks my fucking heart man.

I thought I had social anxiety but really it was just a sort of depression. My dad left and my mom was kind of mean for the entire fourth grade, but now, in 5th grade, I’m a social butterfly. My mother has been nicer and I got over my dad. He‘s dead to me, and I love life.

I read the book before I even knew about a movie and I think the book also didn't portray suicide prevention in a good way i wanted to feel something for the characters but I just didn't, but maybe that's just me
