Hi Kim! I loved your video! So informative, thank you so much! I do have a question that may seem like a dumb one but I am SUPER new to gardening. At the end of the season I'm assuming you have to pull all the roots from the garden and cut the vines off the trellis? Also do you ever have to change the soil out and replace with new soil? Or can you just stir it up and add fertilizer each year? Thank you SO much for all the information! I learned so much from your video!

In the beginning it looks like you have a soaker hose running down the center of the 2’x12’ bed?? I’m hoping I can set up an automatic watering system

LOL Yes that was a gift from my husband and lasted only about 2 weeks before I forgot that it was there and ran over the main hose with the lawn mower. I decided I better just stick to what Iv always done. I did install soaker hoses to a few of my long flower beds along the fence line to help save a bit of time watering. But never replaced the ones in the tunnels. I like to fill them completely full when it get really hot to know for positive that the plants are getting enough water.

It looks like your squash tunnels were not fenced in? If not do the deer or wild animals not bother them?
@minimeadows9641

Great question Cami! The fence around the garden was originally constructed to keep the goats out that I would let free range in the yard from time to time. When I decided to expand the garden, I decided that we just wouldn’t let them out while the garden was in full swing so that they wouldn’t eat the vines, leaves and produce. We have Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs that are on constant patrol around the perimeters of our property and they do a very good job of keeping away the deer and any stay wild animals that might wonder too close to the house.

How do you get to the center box that’s enclosed on both sides by arches
@minimeadows9641
@minimeadows9641 4 ай бұрын
When working the ground and the plants aren’t up I fit just fine between the arches. Once the plants start growing, I just reach in between the holes of the cattle panel.

Do you plant both sides of the trellis or just one?
@minimeadows9641
@minimeadows9641 4 ай бұрын
I just plant where there is a cattle panel for the plants to climb. So on the 2 outside beds I only plant the one side closest to the cattle panel, and on the middle bed I plant both sides of the bed.

So if I have 2 beds and 1 arch I plant two rows on each bed (staggered) and the vines meet in the middle?

Your garden is so inspirational. I am planting sugar babies and other melons on a cattle panel arch. I read that its not good to grow them close to cucumbers. Could i grow the cucumbers on the garden bed to the other side of that cattle panel arch or is that still too close?

Im assuming they are speaking in terms of cross pollination. As long as you do not plan on saving the seeds, Im sure this will be perfectly fine.

Great video.! I have a stack of notes :) Been using raised beds but am going to the cattle panels to save space & back. Will use the beds for non-vining stuff. Arkansas has clay & tons of bermuda! Question - do u plant both side of the panel, or does it just depend on how long the vines will grow? If both sides, can they be different veggies?

What would you think about instead of using raised beds, using earth boxes? Fertilizing would be different and would have to be attended to more often, but do you think this would work? I have 5 boxes I'd like to try this with. Great video, it gave me a lot of information, I appreciate it! Thank you!
