I like the idea of tying strings to the flower bouquet and single women and men get to participate. So much fun! Khmer weddings are a lot of fun, but also very expensive especially if the families included a formal engagement ceremony prior to the actual wedding.

Growing up I remember seeing Khmer elderlies eat white rice with watermelon and ripe yellow mangoes with trey ngeat or trey ngeat phat, especially during the summer months. They tend to lose their appetite and can't digest solid food well, but these were some of the last few dishes they enjoyed eating.

I also prefer steak with tuk prahok over a hamburger. My family wraps the steak in lettuce with cucumber and different mints before dipping it into the sauce. And oftentimes we boil tripe and chitterlings to eat with. One of my favorites.

I prefer steak with tuk prahok as well since it's a healthier option with a variety of veggies than a hamburger. Hamburgers usually have a high cholesterol content, which I try to avoid high cholesterol items.

@@henrymao2407 Yes, it seems like Khmer people may be more genetically predisposed to high cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension. I do think steak with tuk prahok and greens/mints is a healthier option, but one just needs to be careful about eating too much prahok because it is high in sodium.
