Economic status really matters and sadly determines how others treat us. It may cause how much respect would others give us, therefore I am not surprised that higher levels of violence against women are from the lower economy status. It's all connected. I agree that GBV is a public health and societal issue. Patriarchy plays as solid cause of gender "inequality". In offices, most workplaces, men are paid more than women. After marriage women carry that surname of their husbands, could be an example of patriarchy. I agree that violence can be in any way not only physical. When it comes to home, it is true that parents sometimes raise their children the wrong way, for example emotional or psychological abuse could be done and even of course physical. It is sad that the rate of VAW increased.

It is sad to discover that there are gender based violence occurrences especially to children in times of emergencies where people mostly need help, and instead of getting it, they get the opposite. I also observe this lifetime spiral of gender violence in this time. Adult stage is extremely hard. But my heart goes out to the elder people, to experience different kinds of abuse in the last chapters of their lives is very saddening. Thank you Dr. Taylan for sharing this.

This is clear Dr. Taylan. It is really sad that many people still think of women as fit in home only, doing household chores, taking care of the children, cooking for the entire family, a support only to the man (husband). It a great thing that we have now online lessons like this, to educate more and make people understand, that women are equal to men. That women can also play other roles that are contributing and productive to the society. Expectations of women as a mere house manager can now be considered as primitive way of thinking, as we have proven many times that women's intelligence and excellence are needed as much as the society needs men's. I agree that most of the institutions are led by men, but I hope one day this could change somehow, to give more ways and places for women as well.
