what a fascinating video, the views were incredible thanks for capturing so much beauty during your trips. I'm sure that tiny and noisy cabin was all worth it. It must have been amazing to experience those incredible views from a boat. Also, the picture at minute 17:18 has to be one of the most spectacular pictures I have ever seen. INCREDIBLE!!
@TheURLofEalingАй бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. The light in the polar regions is quite unique, and compensates for the temperatures. The boat was "old splendour" and while it was a small and noisy cabin, it was a much cheaper trip as no single-supplement was required! :) Note how in the shot at 17:18 the rock in the fjord mimics the mountain behind. Well almost...!

Fascinating ! But I really can't think of any reason to stay there - sure snowy landscapes have a special magic, which I enjoy for a few days each winter where I live - until the nuisance factor steps in that is ! Why anyone volunteers to live there is amazing to me. Sure I like aloneness too, but not as a permanent situation ! All I could think of was what do you do if the dogs run off & you are stuck in the middle of a freezing nowhere ?

Most people there were born there, though others are there on temporary contracts. Good dog-husbandry will ensure you are never abandoned!

It’s interesting to see all different aspects of Cuba . This part of the rural island shows the simple life and the beauty of nature, captured by your keen eye. I liked watching the cigar making. The empty shops. We take for granted getting into shops and find all sorts of of items, there instead it’s still the rationalized system. The beauty of the island is stunning ,again you took me on a great trip Simon. Thank you😊

Thanks - I've known the 1st song for 30 years and have been waiting for the chance to use it - this was it! The 2nd song was, given it's sentiment, pure destiny - given that I don't speak Spanish! My objective was to contrast the positives and negatives in under 10 minutes, and to put our own problems in some kind of perspective.

Hi Simon, I really enjoyed your videos, they capture the spirit of the country with great respect and sensitivity, both of nature and people. I’ve read a rather strange comment by a viewer, cursing you for how you write the name of the country. Actually if you consult Wikipedia it acknowledges us that can be written in both ways: GUIANAS OR GUYANAS. I thought the comment was over the top anyway and uselessly rude using inappropriate words for the reason the reader thought he was absolutely right but the literature proved wrong.

There's alot in this video that reminds me of my time remote from Thule Air Base, NW Greenland in '61-'62. I love Huskies. Their stamina and work ethic is legendary, eh Poul? The very opening reminds me of the Rapcom site on South Mountain at TAB, and the fjord with its frozen bergs let's me recall the mighty Wolstenhomme Fjord that the Danes called " the world's biggest ice machine" , eh Gene?

Hi there! Lovely video. I noticed you used Iain Dawsons cover or born free! I am Iains granddaughter. Amazing again! What kind of snake was it?
@TheURLofEaling10 ай бұрын
Thanks! :) According to the book a fellow traveller had, it was a (very young/small) black mamba (the mouths of which are black, but not their exterior skin). The local camp staff seemed very excited by it, and everybody came to look - suggesting whatever it was it was an unusual event. Some of them said it was "very poisonous" while others said it wasn't poisonous at all. We were told to wait, not just outside the chalet, but up at the bar/reception area until it had been removed! So I guess we may never know for sure.

Thank you Simon for taking us along with you through this spectacular adventure. I really love how you captured the vernacular of the villages, nature at its wildest state, animals’ freedom, the illusional dunes… these elements seem to be performing an ancestral ceremony on those savage lands. This video really shows that you have such a sensitive and delicate eye, capable of making us viewers feel what you felt during your adventure, I think this is an artistry that not everyone is capable of so you should be proud of that. I also loved the fact that you showed us the civilised part of South Africa too at the end of the video; it’s easy to stereotype Africa assuming that what characterises the continent is only raw nature, elephants and giraffes… so thanks for showing us both sides. No need to mention the greatness of all the shots, they all tell a story and this is amazing. Once again, thank you for sharing your video! Can’t wait to watch part two now!!

I just finished watching the video. I now know they are a guarantee of a good view. So I lay back and start the journey! And I travel far and wide to those countries you film. The images are so vivid. Your keen eye delves into the both real and beauty on the natural world which exists since millennia. I loved the river crossing of the herd of elephants, the short fight between the two males(?) assessing the balance among them all. The whole life of the place is something to respect, to look at, but not disrupt, to photograph but not take. And the soundtrack says it all, making you fell the mightinest, but also the fragility of its beauty, the anticipation of the chaos of fights,of fear of the hunt and search for food. Yet it all seems so calm and right. Even in the roar of the mighty waterfall there is a sense of peace. Thank you once again for sharing your journey which becomes mine too for a while😊
@TheURLofEaling11 ай бұрын
Thanks for your kind (and beautiful) words - and yes the two fighting elephants were both males - the would-be rival was quickly seen off, and he was followed for quite a long way to be certain, before he returned to the group.
