Thank you very much for the video. I am now at the stage after i have input the command “diskutil apfs unlockVolume /dev/volume_id”. It is now asking me to input my passphrase which i assumed is my password to gain access to my mac. However, it doesn’t seem to be working. Your advice would be much appreciated.

Hey, thanks for the video. This is the closest I've got to fixing it but still not quite there. I got into terminal and deleted files to make some space, but when I reboot afterwards I'm still stuck in a loop and I can't get it to resume the big sur installation. I get my login screen, enter my password, get a progress bar for a few seconds then it reboots to the apple logo, progress bar under the apple logo for a few seconds, then back to the login screen. Any ideas?

Hi, I made a bootable installer of High Sierra on a USB drive following this article: www.wikigain.com/create-macos-high-sierra-bootable-usb-installer-windows-10/ Is that ok? I inserted the USB in my Mac, powered on and help Option key pressed. Then on my screen I am prompted to select from 4 options: macOS Installer, Macintosh HD, Install macOS High Sierra, EFI Boot. Which one should I select? I don't understand which one is my USB Flash Drive... I am scared to proceed without knowing what I am doing, as the whole reason I am resorting to this is to save all the data I have on my Mac, as I can't afford to loose it.

Choose Install macOS High Sierra and click next. It should take you in some seconds to another screen macOS Utilities. Then follow the above instructions.

@@nilotpalsanyal Thanks a lot! I managed to access the Terminal. I am so happy . But now, how do I know how much size do I need to delete through Terminal manually in order to be able to finish installing Big Sur?
@nilotpalsanyal3 жыл бұрын
@@anavetiul974 That's great. Big Sur installation is said to need 20GB of free space. But I would say keep at least 25GB free space for being on the safer side. You can see the current size of the disk in the output of 'diskutil apfs list' and delete files accordingly. After you delete, exit terminal, shut down computer, take off the USB, then restart, and Big Sur should install fine.
@anavetiul9743 жыл бұрын
@@nilotpalsanyal I find it is taking too long to delete the files one by one. I spent almost all day and only managed to free up 10GB, as many files are small size and they are not properly named and it is difficult to always know what I am deleting. I was wondering if there is a way to use 'cp' command to copy from this Volume to another external USB?
@nilotpalsanyal3 жыл бұрын
@@anavetiul974 Sure, you can connect an external USB (not bootable USB) and then in terminal, see if it being shown under /Volumes/ (it should). Then first 'cp' files to USB, check if they are copied, then 'rm' original files. Should work.

Thanks a lot. The video helped me. I used the terminal "rm -r file/directory" command to clean up free space for installation.

Hey did it actually help? I have a problem. I installed Big Sur and then my computer crashed. I followed the rules of command, options, shift +R and it took me to utility disk and I did the first aid and it gave me error. My mac is full 250gb with no available space. What can I do? Please someone tell me they had the same problem and they solved it?
@nilotpalsanyal3 жыл бұрын
@@sccr Can you open macOS Utilities by any way? If yes, then you can open terminal from there and follow the above instructions to delete some files to make space. Msg me personally if you cannot work it out and I will try to help.

@@nilotpalsanyal hello, I was able to unlock, but how do I delete files now?
@nilotpalsanyal3 жыл бұрын
@@swoosh714 Find your data disk inside 'cd /Volumes/'. Go to files/directories you want to delete. Delete a file with 'rm filename'. Delete a directory with 'rm -r directoryname'.

@@nilotpalsanyal sorry, but how do you find your data disk? Am I supposed to still be in “terminal”? How do I search for the files and directories? Sorry for all the questions. Not very tech savvy. Thanks
