Commenting from Seoul, Korea. Unfortunately Dr Kim is not qualified to comment on my grandfather and the images of the sculpted art around Dosan's statue. The story of Riverside and the Pioneer Korean community is a hoax. The City of Riverside and UC Riverside have used selected facts not the complete story of Dosan's legacy. There is no evidence Dosan picked oranges except the 1912 photos of Dosan with oranges. Dosan was posing for ads for the Shinhanminbo to attract Koreans to work for Konngnip Hyophoe. The ere was a group called Daedong Pokkukuhoe who picked oranges in Pasadena before Riverside. These Koreans were part of the Southern Methodist Episcopal Church Mission founded in 1904 in Los Angeles. There was a Korean Mission in Redlands in 1906. Dosan did not teach English or Bible Studies in Riverside. English and Religion were taught by White people from Calvary Church. Dosan did not live in Riverside continuously but traveled most of the time. The story of Riverside as First Koreatown or Settlement is a hoax based on selected facts not complete history. I have challenged So called "scholars" in Riverside to a debate. Nobody will accept the challenge. My name is Philip Ahn Cuddy. www.dosan.org

Long ago, the term universal design felt necessary yet a bit esoteric to me until someone explained that it’s a term from architecture. Architects think about universal design when designing accessible buildings that are also inclusive in the way all people can use and move through the buildings. Once I heard that, UD clicked for me!

Hi Dr. Jeff. It has been an exciting and busy school year. I was just talking about one of the lessons I used from your KZbin channel with the “Empowered Roundtable”. I have been meaning to reach out to you now with still a short amount of time left before the school year, and as I was checking items on my phone this KZbin title came up. I call it the universe directing you😌 I watched your video and I love your ideas about universal design learning and teaching. I hope to reconnect with you on the “Empowered” Hub and learn together for a win-win focus for all involved. I hope to chat with you soon. In the meantime keep up the amazing work you do and share. I am a big fan!

Thank you Dr. Jeff Kim for your kind words and the wonderful video. I really appreciate it. It was an honor to interview everyone for my book, especially the families of Edward Jae Song Lee, Latasha Harlins, and Rodney King. I am forever grateful for everyone's generosity and willingness to open their hearts to me so that their stories can be taught to our young readers about the power of courage, compassion, resilience, and solidarity. I am also grateful for your scholarship, academia, and advocacy work for our students! 감사합니다 Sincerely, Paula Yoo

Author Paula Yoo, what a service for Korean Americans and All Americans. So amazed by your impressive book and your curation of so many Saigu stories. RISING FROM THE ASHES examined the complex events of 1992 in LA through numerous stakeholders creating empathy and greater understanding by showing a way of how to humanize and build empathy vs. othering and further dividing. A really beautiful approach to non-fiction storytelling of this difficult event for so many. Appreciate you!

I am a long term sub going into a new school. The school does this grading for equity and I need to know more specifically what it is and what it isn't. It is hard to find the information online. I think people are trying to convince experienced teachers that the old way is wrong, rather than telling us more specifically what it is. I have specific questions that are unanswered. I will probably just have to ask at my school.
