What's the name of the girl in your first video she's cute?

Thank you so much for this video! I'm a second year IMG student (6 year program), so I have about a year left till Step 1. With regards to resources, as my med school exam questions are similar to step 1, I already began using preparation textbooks and e-learning resources. So far I'm using BRS, Goljan's review books and Lecturio platform and I feel like it is more than enough. Of course I also used Sketchy micro for bacteriology but for some reason I don't find virology section that useful. there are just tiny bits which help me remember facts, do you think I should just rewatch the videos until they don't stick to my mind?

I know you said to do more questions but my foundation is weak so I’m doing Kaplan lectures (I’m an img) + 40 questions per day to reinforce my learning. I would like to do at least 80 questions per day but not able to bec of Kaplan at the same time. What is your take on this should I toss Kaplan and just do straight questions like 80+ questions or build my foundation first then do 80 questions/day after I’m done with Kaplan. It’s gut wrenching for me to decide and I know questions is the best way to learn but I also do feel like you have to have decent knowledge base to even understand explanations from questions to be a fruitful exercise. I would love to hear your advice on this. Thanks for sharing your experience..

Hey! I understand completely. I agree that you do need a good foundation and everyone’s learning is different. That being said, I think you have a good balance if it’s working for you. If you see improvement in your questions then keep going. But...I believe that the best way to learn no matter the base you have is questions because it gets you into the format of how the tests asks questions and how to approach things and to also see what is important. I would do questions and if you come across a topic you really know NOTHING about, then do Kaplan lecture on it. That’d be my advice :)

Great video. How well did your practice tests (NBME's and UW assessments) correlate to your actual score?
@DrGalvis5 жыл бұрын
Nirav Shah Hey, so overall I think the best correlated practice exams to my scores were the UWorld ones. With that said, I did those the closest to the test. I did all the NBME ones in the first weeks so that could bias my opinion because I was starting out, you know. But they were indicative of the progress I was making. Other classmates of mine that did well agree that the UWorld ones were the best indicators and should be taken closer to the test.

Thank you very much for your advice! Current first year here. Just finished cardiopulmonary organ system. Although I passed, I did not do as well as I hoped. Looking for ways to improve my study efficiency.
@DrGalvis5 жыл бұрын
Yeah buddy, I felt the same way through a lot of my first year. I had to adjust and learn new ways of becoming more efficient at studying. What helped me was doing more questions and learning through failure, which is hard to deal with but it gets better as it goes! Keep pushing on, you got this! Trust me

Did you take the traditional path into med school (biology or chemistry major in college) or did you take another path?
@DrGalvis6 жыл бұрын
Hey! So the TL;DR version is I took the community college (for 5 years) then transferred to a University (2 years). But yes, throughout all of that I was a neuroscience major :). Let me know if that answers your question! Happy to chat anytime
@jennifermartinez90746 жыл бұрын
Yes thanks very much for answer. It means alot you took the time to reply! And keep being great, and that positive attitude. You really inspire me to not give yp on my dream!!! I am currently a junior sociology major but I do want to go to med school to pursue a career as a pediatrician. I was wondering if it was still possible to go into med school.

Hey man, might sound like a stupid question, but you use 2 different laptops. One in class and another macbook at home. Is there a reason why or you just happen to have two.
@DrGalvis6 жыл бұрын
What's up man?! I actually use an iPad in class so that I can use the apple pencil to write on slides during lecture but then use my laptop at home to look at everything. That's only because it's easier to navigate files, notes and the internet from a laptop. Some people in my class use only one or the other all the time but I perfer both.

SemiDrGalvis Thanks for the reply! I was just super curious to know as I'm looking to buy a laptop before I begin university this year. Just discovered ur channel and I'm loving your content. Keep it up!
