WOW. Jaw Dropping. This is really eye opening to me. This is a familiar spot to me as a private boat angler and this video pretty much sums up most of my trips here. (Don't really fish it as a result) The area really lacks any larger/adult fish. What surprised me most is the fact that there is no growth, coral, plants, or much else... seems so barren.

Hi Ross: Thanks for the video. I just didn't quite get how to get to the yellow restrictor in the diverter. Looking at it, I don't see it. I know this was a while ago, would you be able to help?

Awesome sighting of giant sea bass. This would be great to include in the Spotting Giant Sea Bass community science project being conducted at UC Santa Barbara.

Hello, I'll try to get it uploaded over Christmas break. I have several others I can add as well.

Beautiful video footage. From the maps I have seen Point Dune is a federally protected reserve and conservation area. I do not know what the distinctions mean. Is spearfishing allowed anywhere near there?

Crazy fucker - thanks for the video - i want to do tech so bad - i do solo dives to 110` - At what FSW do you start to notice a real difference in it being harder to breath?
@RossOverstreet3 жыл бұрын
Air starts to feel “thick” around 160ft and work of breathing starts to become noticeable. The helium content of trimix makes it feel much less dense and easier to breathe. It’s hard to tell if you’re breathing it from the surface all the way down, but it’s noticeable if you switch back and forth between air and tri-mix at depth.

Hi Frank - everyone who's seen it feels the same way. The geography is beautiful, and it's certainly a rockfish nursery, but it was almost devoid of adult fish. It's a well-known spot and I believe the charter boats and recreational boats hammer it pretty hard.
@frankmorris66916 жыл бұрын
@@RossOverstreetI agree...When I was younger I worked on the charter boats out of Malibu...we caught many adult rockfish day in and day out ffffv or years...took a great toll on the ecosystem...we used up to ten baited hooks and the daily bag limit was 15 per angler

I'm curious, are you just a super serious hobbyist or someone paid to look at new locations as an explorer or the deep? I mean, it's cool to say both but I was just wondering. I am a diver too and want to become more of an exploratory type that dives on trimix to also log new places.
@RossOverstreet7 жыл бұрын
Hi Demitrios! I'm not even a super serious hobbyist, I'm just a tech diver with training and experience to do dives to about 200ft. I'm passionate about exploration and finding new spots, and I've learned to process bathymetry data and operate GIS software so I can find new and interesting sites. The site shown in this video is very well known and documented. The neat thing about this trip was studying the bathymetric data for hours beforehand so that what I familiar with the landscape before starting the dive.
