I have my Mother's (71 yrs old) Singer FW 221 instructions for buttonhole attachment lost in the mists of time. Thank you for such an excellent video, now I am ready to button hole my next project. BTW the instructions that came with the machine are in Spanish!!! But have found an English translation. 🙂

I just bought a 221. I cannot get the motion knob to turn. It seems to be stuck or whoever put it back on could have put it cockeyed anyway I’ve taken the screw out. Cannot get it loosed up to get off. Do you have a suggestion on what to do in this case?

Just when I thought I didn't need another tool! Have to get one now - needle replacement and threading is such a pain.

I don't own a "featherweight", but hope you'll answer these questions anyway.. I inherited my mother's Montgomery Ward URR-185. I am 70 and have never used a sewing machine. The machine has a round belt that is severely cracked. I moved the motor mount to loosen the belt, but I can't get the old belt off (or new belt on) because it doesn't clear the bobbin winder. The bobbin winder doesn't turn or move. Is the round belt appropriate for this model? How do I get the belt past the bobbin winder? And isn't the bobbin winder supposed to rotate?

Agreeing with all these positive comments. Your family dynamics are sweet. Loved Ruthy showing how to thread a 221. I think it was 7 years ago. God bless you all.

I bought several feet of unknown brand off Amazon before I found your shop. Even though it said shipped by Amazon, the package still came from overseas. I understand that most of these components are now made overseas. But I would much rather buy and do business with American 2:06 businesses. So glad I found your shop.

I used a can of spray paint for the hinges, etc. on my carry case. Just make sure they are good and clean. Place them outside in the sun to warm them up a little before hand.

I have a singer 774 I overtightened I think the clutch knob. I have looked endlessly for days trying to find something on the internet of how to get that knob off because when I took the screw off the knob still didn't turn, so I want to tell you.Thank you for giving me another way to try to get that clutch knob loose and then sew hopefully

Very well explained. A joy to see the detailed explanation, and a greater joy that there is no annoying background music to this video. Nice tip about the gap, overheating, and the nut needing threadlocker. Fine details that make such a difference. Many thanks!!

I found this video after a Google search on my Featherweight motor that is not functioning properly. Then I saw that there is a channel, website, and company dedicated to these marvelous machines. I'm looking forward to exploring the videos and properly caring for my two featherweight machines. I was given my first one by my mother who bought it in NYC in the 1950s. My sewing class teacher marveled at the machine when I took it out of its case during class. They are incredible machines. The second one was purchased by my mother at a second hand shop for $50 but was missing the bobbin that she purchased for $100.

We picked up a pretty nice 1935 Featherweight in the case at an estate sale today for $100! Other than needing a little cleaning up I noticed the stop motion wheel was stuck, followed your directions ad sure enough the little tri-lobe washer was 180 degrees off! Works perfect now. The little screw was actually tightened down on one of the lobes and ut wouldn't budge. Pulled the screw and the knob spun right off. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the very detailed instructions! I just found a 221 yesterday and couldn’t get the stitches to not skip until I fully took off, cleaned and reinstalled the whole tension set-up. I was terrified but I did it and now it worked beautifully! Yay!

If the collar gets damaged and the wheel has a very slight wobble( not true turn) to it and it slightly binds in a place when turning the wheel by hand. Do you think thread would do it or maybe a bent shaft? it is not on a featherweight but a 15 Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

Great, your explanation on how the stitch works showed me how to fix a problem with a missed stitch.. the bobbin case had a couple spots of rust, and seeing how the thread slides over the surface, I thought it may catch or snag.. some 1200 sand paper and a little oil, smoothed it like glass, and it stitches perfect!!
