The video doesn't seem to mirror the inherent heartbreak and pain of the song at all. Also, she misspells "Jackie". Very odd.

I sough this a few years ago for the first time, its a total time capsule for the 90's to me. I think its because it reminds me of Deee-Lite - "Groove Is In The Heart" type of style. I love it!

I have an art's degree and appreciate this for what it is but it always makes me so mad that artists make work like this and it is shown in prestigious galleries. Even if it was made a long time ago I still think it is not worth seeing or listening to because unless you do research on it no one would ever know what this is supposed to represent! Those that make abstract work like this get all the money and talk out their butts like they actually have a reason for the creation of it but really didn't have a reason at the start. This makes me think of a person on drugs or with some kind of psycho issue not about sexual stuff it is like a horror movie. So not worth my time watching only watched it because of a class I am in.

You 'appreciate this for what it is'? Respectfully I hope you eventually gain that ability. If I may suggest, be curious about the discrepancy between your 'appreciation' and that of whoever you're paying to learn from. Why does this artist have an audience? Does it really feel, instinctively, that this is someone just wanting to rip everyone off, or does it feel like someone behaving in an unusual manner to try and communicate something, no matter how unsuccessfully it might seem to you? Why, really, is every contemporary institution on the planet full of work that makes you angry? Could it all be useless nonsense? Because highly skilled craft is not universally required there is certainly b/s by most standards, but it is a great mistake to imagine it is all b/s.

Ïf someone would have made this today, consesus would have it (we would say) that it was retarded (in the purest sense of the word), if someone would have done this 1986 consesus would have it (the same we) that this was retarded (in an unpure sense of the term). Somewhere inbetween, this was the best that ever was.

torii107 The main message is how womans body is sexualized in pop culture. Rist points out that nobody cares about the content and meaning of for an exapmle a song (as she shows it with revealing her breast and singing the same line all over again)

couple of years ago there were pipilotti rist's installations in teatro manzoni in milan. i had never heard about her before and when i stepped into the theater i was just overwhelmed by all her works, on the ceiling, on the walls, in the corners, music spread everywhere, creeping from every spot. the main hall was completely surrounded by three of her videos, pillows were all around the floor to let people watch the one on the ceiling ("sip my ocean", actually my favourite). i traunted school in order to stay there as long as her works were shown. completely love her art, her personality, her perspective. these works she's been making lately about kinda lypsinging odd voices sounds a bit limiting to me though, but i can still see her point there.

I like it. <- How benign those comments are in something that is an adaptation of the first line of the Beatles song ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’. If you know that when that song was released it was seen as a sexual interpretation as the gun is a metaphor (even though it came from a cover of a actual gun magazine).
@richardharris8867
@richardharris8867 10 жыл бұрын
Actually: it wasn't a magazine cover, it was an NRA ad that took the Charles Schultz Peanuts line "Happiesss is a Warm Puppy" and perverted it into a support of gun use. Whe John Lennon saw the ad he couldn't believe it and wrote the song in reaction.
