What kind of Kohler engine, K301 perhaps? My 400 has got a JAP engine and someone nicked the carb off it, so I fancy putting an engine on it and getting it going again.

Thanks, I'm looking to use something similar to roll bales up the ramp of my horse truck and wasn't sure if a single rope would work.

This is a great video and got me started replacing my seals BUT JUST AN FYI YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE SUN GEAR OR PLANETARY GEARS. We use a 7 ton 2 jaw puller to just pull the inner assembly as one unit right out of the hub. Just attach the puller to the inner assembly and the center pin on the head of the intermediate shaft right down the middle. You can save yourself a TON of time and risk with disassembly removing all those gears individually!

Hi I thank you for your comment and you are correct in fact massey Ferguson actually made a threaded puller that wound pull the hubs apart On the 100 200 series tractors but there was a problem with some tractors that the shaft would work it’s way out and the wheel could come loose. On later models of tractors the manufacture of the shaft was to a tighter fit and your method would probably not work as they can be very tight indeed.in this video I wanted to demonstrate a method that would work for all models with this setup. It’s interesting to know that you have been successful with a puller as that may help someone else but I would only recommend your way on earlier tractors with the loser fit of components. I have seen sone on later models crack lose at 15 ton and some exceed 25 ton so don’t be fooled into thinking your method is good fore later tractors. Thanks again for posting a comment.

Very Nice classic project 4x4 pickup land rover ,I think attaching the spare tire to the backward of the pickup will help in balancing the car where the center of gravity in those pickups are balanced between the front wheels where most the weight of the car and the rear wheels by their loading capacity of goods , its can be restored and modified to modern standards the only problem of this model and because of their practicality become very underpowered with the boring diesel engines , and very stiff Suspension system which all design according to the standards , level of technology and engineering knowledge for that era for the practical using in off roading .

We had one back in the 70's it had multi power too, Dad let it go in the end when its clutch went! It was a lovely tractor and I often wonder what happened to it.

My favourite tractor in my youth on the family farm was the MF 178 , without multi-power but with power steering. Great machine like all the 100 series Massey Ferguson. Over time we had MF35 ,65,178 ,185 then later 590 . All good machines .

Yes I think you are correct.i have seen the type you describe on some of the well German tanks but never seen one close up unfortunately.

Spring starter I think not inertia. An inertia starter has a flywheel which is cranked up to speed and is then engaged immediately before the flywheel slows down. On this one, on the other hand, the internal spring is wound up until the window indicates fully wound, it can then be left in that state until needed. We had one on a JCB, made by Simms if I remember right.

Had a 185 2wd here on the farm, used alot to plough and cultivate. plenty of power and torque, very efficient and low fuel consumpion. slooow on the road tho, this was a non multi power unit with 8+2 gears. did 24kilomtres per hour on 2000rpms, tried to give it some more rev up to 2200 but the cab shook and vibrated so bad it was unbearable xD. would be cool to put in a gearbox from 675-690, they have 8+2 but also a third lever for rabbit and tortoise. they run ca 30kpm. sold it to some buyers who exported it to africa, i bought a case 685 xl 4wd,goes 40-45kpm , wanted a fast tractor with good cab. a couple miles from my home there is sitting a 185 4wd in same shape as this one on an old farm . not been moved for years but there is a bucket on the exhaust thank god. wonder if the old geezer who owns it wanna sell ,kinda miss that good old 4,0 litre perkins sound :D
