Great in-depth review! Thanks for shooting this. I'd like to see someone make a can accurate to the images from latest Heritage auction - did you see those? There is an inner machined piece nearer the lid where the top of the inner mechanism slides in to. This is great as an idealised version of the prop, I hope someday someone will make a 'warts and all' version based off scans of the original as there appear a few differences. This one is nice and shiny too I notice 👍. You can tell from a machinists point of view this has the bells and whistles, edges all look bevelled etc

Have been thinking of getting this, but I must say for that much money the fact the can does not screw is a dealbreaker. I should be able to grab it like a normal can without worrying about the whole centrifuge coming out. The stickers should’ve also been pre-applied on the vials and come with the liquid.

Quick question, I bought a replica once and the edge of the barbasol can was very sharp where the bottom had been removed. It ended up scratching the centrafuge up really badly. Is this one “lipped” or folded in on itself or anything or is it the raw and sharp edge of metal? Thanks for the video! Great job with the overview
@craigtheglasgowgeek48683 ай бұрын
Definitely not the "raw" exposed metal so shouldn't have any problems.

Just curious, but do you know if somebody has made a digital copy of this gekiga? I've tried finding it online, but all I get a few panels from a few outdated Tumblr blogs. I really dig the 70's manga art of this interpretation of Jaws and would love to see the full version Would be really great if somebody could provide a full version of it online so it doesn't get lost to time.

To be fair I think this is why no one has done it as it's such a peculiar and sought after piece because so little is know about it.

@@craigtheglasgowgeek4868 True, but I would hate for it to join the mountain of other great works and adaptations that just disappear because nobody preserved it in some form for future generations to experience. Received my copy from the US today. Nice prop just very annoying as a 'replica prop' they completely missed the fact that the original screen used prop has a working screw thread to remove the inside section. Hopefully someone will make another more accurate can in the future.
@eucolecionodinossauros4 ай бұрын
Got mine today. Had that same feeling. I am in love with the prop, not gonna lie, but I just wish they had made the can with the screw part inside to close it more tigthly, which makes it screen accurate and allows you can pick it up without risk of dropping the bottom part.
@Frunger5 ай бұрын
I bought this and it's fantastic. Some might find it a horrific act of violence to modify the prop, but I added a nut to the top of the inside of the can so that the shell can be screwed into the base, just like the movie. It's a little strange that they didn't do this themselves. The top of the base is threaded already.

Wow, that's an amazing find you have. And in such great shape, too. Ever since I found out about this gekiga adaptation I've tried to find a full version of it online, but always came up short and didn't feel like spending that much for a physical copy. Quick question. Those “half spaces” near the center aren’t counted as an actual space are they? I did notice the more “squared spaces” just before the end so I assume those are the last ones.
@craigtheglasgowgeek48683 жыл бұрын
The half spaces count as the space which takes you to the centre of the game. You can only call out Jumanji and finish a game by landing on the exact number of spaces. Makes for some very exciting gameplay if there are more than one of you trying to reach the centre.

Question! What exactly is the diameter for the magnets underneath the board? You mention that the ones beneath the tokens are 10 mm, so I'm wondering if the ones beneath the board need to be the same size. Any magnet with 5 kg pull I can find is at LEAST 15 mm, some even 20, and I don't know whether that fits in the corners of the board. Thanks in advance!

@Meowzy3 жыл бұрын
@@craigtheglasgowgeek4868 Thanks so much! By now, I've used 15 x 5mm magnets, which work well enough but also have the downside of pulling in the tokens if they're set down on the first space of their path. Technically you can't roll a one right off the bat because you use two dice and often move the amount of spaces indicated on a Jumanji card, but the game does occasionally send a player back a few spaces, which risks the problem of a player token ending up on that first space. Another problem I'm having is that if tokens are adjacent to one another/their paths cross, their magnetic fields will mess with one another. But then, the game is more for show and less for playing.

which sizes neodymium magnets did you use? Great vid btw! helps a lot I hadn't though about the magnets being to strong so that would have been an expensive laugh

Firstly search ebay for a seller called powermagnetstore, that's where you'll get all the magnets from that I used for this project. You'll need four small flat ones for under the tokens and four of the larger flat ones (5kg of pull) for the corners. All the Best.

If I were to rig the board to have thin steel rods lining underneath the tracks, how strong of magnets to put underneath the tokens would you recommend to do that? I already spent $8 on some magnets and 1lb of pull was not enough for even two magnets to stay together between the board lol

I looked at magnets based on kg's not lbs. I also worry that having the steel rod under the track might attract the pieces to the wrong area of the board. Hope this helps.
