Najwa, great to see you on Grid Mod sharing your stories. Congratulations on your new role! I also echo what you and Dr. Cook’s said that it’s very important that engineers share and learn about the new technologies and leverage data analytics to solve the problems and improve system reliability

"When we learn how to store electricity, we will cease being apes ourselves; until then we are tailless orangutans. You see, we should utilize natural forces and thus get all of our power. Sunshine is a form of energy, and the winds and the tides are manifestations of energy. Do we use them? Oh, no! We burn up wood and coal, as renters burn up the front fence for fuel. We live like squatters, not as if we owned the property." ~ Thomas A. Edison

"Training" has always been the challenge! Hearing from Paul next year to highlight the progress proposed here is on my focus calender. Thanks Dr. Cook for shedding light on our grid transformation.

This has been one of my faves in the series. It seems clear that the technology needed to effectively manage the grid is in our reach. The biggest concern I have is what happens in deregulated states? Here in Pennsylvania, Investor-Owned distribution utilities cannot own generation. My question is what happens when the intelligent grid gains full control of power generation resources? Are they no longer buying power in a marketplace of generators or are they controlling assets they don't own? At the regulatory level this all gets very murky.

Take away 1 - Buildings as grid assets with generation and storage will increase resiliency. Take away 2 - Cost per SF calculations should include lifecycle costs along with immediate costs

A fascinating conversation. I agree with the point that fleets will be the tip of the spear in vehicle electrification - particularly on Long Island where there is a lot of density in terms of last-mile delivery.

My take aways... Good project management practices, doing ordinary things with consistent monitoring and engagement will lead to success. Also in this new energy landscape, getting back to first engineering principles; check, validate, check, and revalidate is key as there is no playbook. Thank you Liz and Brett.

Interesting to see in every single Podcast that nobody has mentioned the safety aspect of the DER penetration. The backfeed of all those DERS, specially behind the meter, and the reverse flow, and not modeling many of those assets within ADMS / OMS or any other Control Center app an perhaps the grid visibility offer to man crews in the field that's a big concern.

Communication and collaboration to honestly discuss the business cases would benefit utilities, developers, and customers! How can we facilitate and incentivize this? 🤔

The element of TIME must be integrated into this equation, i.e. the offloading of energy from car to grid is ridiculously long.... therefore it must occur on schedule and locale of humans' convenience.... "Read a book while recharging" at a library... or know that offloading must occur in time with weather activity of clouds/ rain/ snow.... proactive intentional behaviors. Thinking online... change management is exciting when "epoch meets epoch"!
