yup...when the first thing you learn to crochet is a granny square then you have been tossed into the deep end..that is what my grandma taught my sister and I to do...and I honestly still have that square to this day, nearly 52 years later..I had to teach myself, through books/magazines how to do the rest..I now teach beginners and start them with chains and SC's/DC's..if they pick that up quickly then HDC's...I don't want my students to be overwhelmed in the beginning..

Try a cotton 4ply yarn, its softer and will fold nicer than the yarn you are currently using. I think the yarn yoi are currently using is a bit stiff and chunky. You could also try soaking it on a bit of fabric sofener if you like the chunky look but want to fall more nicely on your head x

Ooh I love those colorful plastic clip stitch markers! So much better than using yarn or bobby pins. I also started with the granny square...everything else I had to learn on my own. I think I'm pretty far along in skill level. Which is exciting. Especially since I had a pretty rough start at crochet. Granny squares are great but not when that's all you get taught. There is soooo much more to crochet than the granny lol.

Use some smaller material. I think a nice soft material (not yarn) would make it really pretty. Or if anything some smaller yarn. I’m not saying you have a big head but you have a bigger brain so it needs space lol. There is nothing wrong with that. But I believe the poof at the top is to much and that’s why it appears larger.

Use smaller yarn? And wash and pin the finished bandana
