I've had this book, and actually played trumpet with the funk brothers, who were brought back into the spotlight by Alan Slutsky's tireless work and dedication.One of my CDs is scratched beyond recognition and I'd like to teach this to my students. Does anyone know how to get the online audio version?

Wait isn't this like a 4 string guitar then? Or did I miss something? Like isn't bass octave lower than guitar and this is again octave higher so back to guitar?

When you slap with the thumb (thumping) do you strike the string at the angle similar to how you induce the clack when doing fingerstyle? ie kind of 45 degrees away from perpendicular into the fingerboard?
@EverythingBass
@EverythingBass 2 ай бұрын
@@Mochimatchamocha Great question! Yes, I usually strike with my thumb as you described. If I am doing the “down/up” thumb technique I will strike the string more across the string, with my thumb moving more parallel to the bass body. I hope that makes sense.

Again, thank you! I wish I could learn exactly how lightly I should be plucking. It seems like the players that get very distinct ghost notes and dynamics appear to pluck super lightly, but I have a hard time keeping volume and intensity even when I pluck super light. I’ve learned on line so I have no one-on-one instruction.

While I do not know a way to completely remove it you can probably find the frequencies where the clack lives and us an EQ to de-emphasize them.

Wonderfull Video. I have a few questions. 1. What are the gauges and tuning of the piccolo bass? 2. guitar E, A, D, G? 3. Also for 4, 5, 6 string basses? **I have a 6 string tuned with bass E, A, D, G, C, F, with gauges 100. 85, 65, 45, 28, 22. 5. Is there someone doing higher than F? maybe Bb? These being bass tuning/octave lower then guitar. I'd appreciate any feedback.
@EverythingBass
@EverythingBass 7 ай бұрын
Hey David! Standard tuning for a piccolo bass is E A D G, and octave higher than a standard bass tuning. I use D’Addario EXL280 Piccolo bass strings, which are 20p, 32, 42, 52. I have never experimented with a 6-string piccolo bass so YOU can teach me!

Would making your string gauge heavier to increase the string tension also alleviate some of that clacking?
@EverythingBass
@EverythingBass 7 ай бұрын
I believe it would help but the best way to eliminate the clack is to change the angle of your plucking fingers.

Hey Jedi! Thanks for the comment. The video was really just to introduce players to what a piccolo bass is. Each piccolo bass will have its own sound, as does each player have their own sound, so I did not feel it was necessary to do a deep dive on what my particular bass sounds like. However, since you are curious I will try to do a video on it next year. Have a great holiday season!!!!
