I think his work sucks but I do appreciate the meaning. I completely agree on your position on him being a unicorn. Total fetishization.

I don't give a damn about the artist's color. It's the work itself. Basquait's paintings were shit. The King was wearing no clothes.Art dealers used him to profit off his wrethched paintings.

I see Basquat's "art" as nothing but vandalism, especially his defacing of public spaces.

This is something I'm experiencing in my journey of enlightenment and self realization, many people ask me about the "source" of my knowledge and all those kinda things, we need to Innerstand the essence of awakening. Our Ancients didn't write books on this bit left symbolisms which are more of Guiding map into these mysteries, it was something that was orally transfered from one Generation to another, due to many causes we've lost the chain of Enlightenment hence in this "new Era", many of us are manifesting things that the current generation cannot fully comprehend due to the generation gap. More Light More Life Fam🕯

Honestly, I don't know any black people that are avid followers of his work.. he was successful because white folks liked his stuff... I don't think most inner city blacks really even understood his work... it's not visually appealing and all the "quotes" were borrowed from other people's writings

I don't think it's much about black people not having time to think as much as it is about western media not interviweing them, prob because a black philosopher has more chances against their western colonial interests

As an artist myself...i agree with everything you said. I never understood the alure of his work! I could draw & paint 10x better than basquiat, But at the end of the day i believe it was his connections & popularity in the undergroud NY art scene that propelled him to super stardom not his work! He was exploited by warhol & other's in the art world he was pawn...straight up

The ideas in the video can be expressed more efficiently, with a better choice of words and without these disgusting mouth sounds (chewing and burping). Nonetheless, the video still opens up to a relevant discussion that we can have for emancipatory purposes. Black thought and critical race theory should be more accessible to our kids. We should have underground education channels in which we amplify the voices of Black philosophers.

I see your side and I also see his work through the lense of West African art and conceptual art. You could also look at it emotional. I agree that with Andy and Madonna (and pretty much all of his "friends"), he played the role of a token. bell hooks has an essay about him. She says he wanted to be a king but also wanted a place for black artists. This is a bit questionable to me. Seems like he was just desperate for white acceptance. I have a couple of books on him (seeing loud and basquiat-isms). He was cool overall for his ability to navigate the art world and the emotional side of his art. I respect his fusion of West African culture. I just wished he focused less on white celebrities but then he probably wouldnt be known today.

"The art world" is the entire Earth, not a small fraction of the USA who are bestowed the honour of being called artists. There are millions of black perspectives in the art world, there always was. Its true the money machine didnt pick up on many of them, but so what? Art isn't dictated by money. Also, yes he was fuxking awful😅

That’s because you don’t know nothing about art you know nothing about art just because you draw just because you paint just because you do some you have no idea what art is or what someone puts into it. You’re just throwing paint on a freaking canvas and you think you’re an artist, you have no feeling Bosque output pain he put everything he mixed artist into his stuff of what he thought he use other artist like a rapper uses. Other artists beats other artists temples other artist melodies you don’t understand Basia as an artist because you’re not a true artist, you’re a poser.
