Oh hey fellow skater! I got recommended your channel and also live in SoCal - depending on where you're at, my zoom spot is Irvine Great Park. Very spacious, many good places where people won't bother you, and good quality paths. Seems like we have similar goals so I can't wait to see your progress!!

Good watch! Keep at it man. I just got back on skates last summer at 35 yrs old after 20 yrs. It's helped with my mobility dramatically! I'm now skating +50 mi weekly. Recording on Strava app. Trying to post on instagram and youtube.

Hi I started learning in January, things that have made the biggest improvementts in my skating.. Learn how to stop as quickly as possible Making sure my shins are pressing into the front of my skates, which automatically makes you bend your knees and lowers your centre off gravity Getting hard boots, I started the first month with cheap soft boots, but upgraded to frx 80s which made a massive difference in the control and manouverability. Good luck, all the best in your journey 😊

Tennis courts are a great place to skate cause the paint makes it a lot less painful when you take a fall. It might not feel any different from bare concrete but once your skin makes contact you will see.

Thanks for the tip! I like tennis courts because they’re flat and open so it gives me space to spread out more.

Brands that have affordable decent skates are Rollerblade, FR and Powerslide. Also, fit differs from brand to brand so you just have to figure out which one fits you the best. Spend a little more on a decent skate that fits you comfortably, it's well worth the money and your feet will thank you for it. I highly recommend getting skates with replaceable frame so you can swap to bigger wheels and better frame when you're ready.

How does it damage the court? Worst I've ever done is leave some urethane on the court and that comes right off

I feel the same here in south Florida. Over populated. That's the reason I keep the heel break on. It makes a sound while you break that people can hear. Like a horn for your rollerblade.

also you may wanna go for an FR2 skate
@disappointmatt4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I've been looking at those, they're a bit pricey for me 😅 as I evolve and improve I'd love to get a pair but I'm looking at the Rollerblade RB 80s for right now

Price is why I said FR2: best quality /price in FR range. FR1 is overkill

couple of things: scissor your skates while rolling and close your stance bringing those skates together
@uu39034 ай бұрын
T-stop is actually quite difficult until you build up ankle strength and balance (able to glide on one foot). You're close but doesn't look you're there yet. An easier stop (for slower speeds like you're going) might be a stuttering/chopping pizza stepping. It ain't pretty but it's a legit stop and easier. Polly is great. Also watch Asha @Skatefresh. Keep up the good work! 👍

Nice progress. Prioritize locking in the parallel turn and T-stop. They both felt impossible at first but eventually you just start doing it. The parallel turn is the launching point to a power stop. Also good to learn how to stop with the heal break. Flow Skate has a great tutorial video on the heal break "The best way to stop on inline skates". You want to keep that heal brake on until you have a very fluid and reliable T-stop and power stop or power slide but then you're also are going to be burning up your wheels faster so the heal brake has its advantages. Word of warning I would recommend wearing hip butt pads (along with knee elbow pads) if you start working on a powerstop, because you really have to throw yourself into it and you will fall. My skates are Rollerblade Twisters. Same as my shoe size 10 1/2. Love them.
@disappointmatt4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I really like the Rollerblade brand so that’ll probably be my first pair of real skates 😁 I can kinda stop with the heal brake but I still feel wobbly when using it. I’ll have to keep trying and learn the T pose too.

Balance and trusting your outer edges are the key. I'm pretty darn proficient on my left parallel turns, and can balance for distance on my left leg. My right side, however, just won't 'get it'. For some reason, I have a phobia of falling to my right
@pavelbuchnevich12295 ай бұрын
Bend your knees more to lower your center of gravity. Learn the scissor stand position (that's when you put one foot in front of the other). Scissor stand, besides making you more stable, will make learning how to turn a lot easier.

You’re never too old, I learned to rollerblade at 51 and now two years later fly down trails or through down town like a cruise missile, but I became obsessed after watching one Bill Stoppard video that somehow came across my feed.
@testsubjectzero89185 ай бұрын
First lean to parallel turn. Then learn to stop. If you can get good at parallel turns then can make them tighter and tighter and eventually you’ll have a powerstop, but will take a lot of practice and repetitions.

Thanks! Learning to stop is my next task haha
