Not required but I imagine they'd switch you to that frequency if you were inbound to that airport.

Not that simple. Landing can be done way too low or too high. The flare isn’t about height at all. It’s about AOA. Flaring is just to slow the descent as much as possible and time it so you land as soft as possible. The timing changes in every landing and starting the flare higher or lower makes no difference. It’s at what angle you start it at and what angle your plane is at before touch down. NOTHING to do with height
@LineUpandWaitNV10 күн бұрын
You're forgetting about ground effect and the impact it has on the flare and landing. The reduction in induced drag the closer you get to the runway significantly affects how aggressive your flare needs to be.
@rogermatheny551212 күн бұрын
As long as you’re within gliding distance to the field. Tear drop entries are stupid and saying last call when leaving the pattern should be an automatic failure on a check ride

Why do you have to tune the VOR radio? Would the comm radio by itself not work?
@LineUpandWaitNVАй бұрын
You can transmit on the com radio, but FSS transmits on the VOR frequency, so you need that tuned in to hear them respond

I’m confused. Wouldn’t your true altitude be lower then indicated when you flew into a area of warm air because warm air is less dense, therefore it would read less pressure. And less pressure would have your indicated altitude read more then true.
@LineUpandWaitNV2 ай бұрын
In this case pressure hasn't changed. It makes more sense if you take a look at the figures in the aviation weather handbook.
@deathnight6842 ай бұрын
@@LineUpandWaitNV so when you go from hot to cold. The reason why it reads your higher then you actually are is because when it’s cold the air molecules contract and are lower. So the altimeter reads that’s there’s less pressure above it, therefore it thinks higher then it actually is

Great tips, even for a 54 y/p student pilot here looking to fly for the regionals in a few years. Some of these tips I've learned the hard way. That said, a good blend of C airspace training helps with comms and ATC complexities.

How do you fly a never flown canyon!? You fly it. At some point, you flew it once and flew it again. Start high and get acclimated.
@LineUpandWaitNV4 ай бұрын
Yeah you're on the right track. You should always enter from above the first time and fly from the end of the canyon towards the entrance, not the other way around.
