How is the weather in the first 2 weeks of October?
@Speedbird1FLY22 сағат бұрын
It's still warmish on the coast but more changeable. Cooler inland especially in higher altitudes. Mind you I am considering October for next year as you bag a few bargains on the seasonal flights that still operate then! Thanks for watching

The regional government has vague plans to restore the line down the east coast from Casamozza to Portovecchio. It was destroyed by WW2 fighting only a few years after completion, but Portovecchio's population has more than doubled since malaria was eradicated. Gradients are easier than on the main Bastia-Ajaccio line. There could even be extensions to Bonifacio, at Corsica's southern tip, or to the airport at Figari.

@@HobartBloke you're right I read about it. I seriously doubt it will ever be built

@Speedbird1FLY More likely that branches will be built to the airports at Bastia and Ajaccio. At least the existing network's future looks secure. It almost got the axe in the early 1970s.

@@HobartBloke that would be a nice addition. I am glad that such great train lines were kept in Corsica. I have been as far as Bastia from Ajaccio. Never tried the branch line on the North west coast

I think it would be a VERY smart decision by Belgrade and Podgorica to reconstruct this entire rail line.. doesn't matter who does it.. (Chinese come to mind). But completely renovate and reconstruct it and it will be a major tourist attraction. And yeah.. get a a couple of brand new overnight trains with massive windows and nice restoraunt, beds, toilets.. it would pay off quick i'm sure. Maybe a few short touristic stops along the way? I would pay good money for such a ride for sure.
@Speedbird1FLY6 ай бұрын
Not sure the pace matters for tourists, the onboard facilities do and I think a restaurant would be a great addition. Upgrading the line would be a massive investment and serious pax or freight traffic would be needed to justify it. I wonder if there are any plans to do so.

actually, the locomotives were made at Electroputere factory in Craiova city from Romania, but they have been revamped by Serbian companies during the 1990, due to the fact that Romania allowed NATO to bomb Serbia from it's teritory, the serbs removed all mentions of the original manufacturer of the locomotives. Electroputere Craiova was building these under license from ASEA Sweden, obtained sometime in the 1960. It was a huge factory, building the locos from scratch, including transformers and control panels. Raw materials, like steel sheets, were obtained from Romanian factories, like the steel factory from Galati, apart from the license, the whole machine was romanian. Nowadays only a part of the factory survives as a shopping mall, some of the patents were taken over by Softronic, but they never had the facilities to build locomotives like the old Electroputere company. There was also a bogie factory in Bals, which supplied the wheels for the locomotives as subassemblies.

Unbelievable!!! Every other comment is about food service. It's a 2-hour ride!!! Are you people malnourished? This is France, people tend not to eat between meals, so most will either eat before getting on a 2-hour train ride or at destination. Trains are for transport not restauration. French sh*t to do on a train: reading a book, praying, making a plan to off your annoying neighbor, flirting with another passenger, ... you know ... NOT stuffing your face.
