im haveing sooooo much trouble getting my cone to relise the tree. Is there a trick to it? thanks in advance for the help.
@TheBeesKneesPotteryАй бұрын
Oh No! So sorry to hear. Did you use a styrofoam cone? We've had some people forget to take the cones out after they finish and we've tried a few different things. I hope one of these work for you. You can stick a long knife up between the paper and the cone and work it around (sometimes cutting the clay) the cone. Or you can jab it up the very center of the cone and then try and turn the knife. Also, as a last resort, I've had to cut it down one side, take it off and then blend the seam and fix it. This is why it's vital to keep twisting that cone as you're working so it is always detached from the cone. Sorry this happened to you. Best of luck. Hope one of these work.

Paint?
@TheBeesKneesPotteryАй бұрын
What would you like to know about the paint? The very end of the video talks about the paint we like to use. It all depends on the type of clay you use. For this video I used low fire white clay. In the finished picture, you can see Mayco Glazes. Mayco is the glaze brand we use most in the studio. After your tree is fired, Acrylic paint can be used also.

Est ce du paper clay ?
@TheBeesKneesPottery Жыл бұрын
Hello! No, this is Earthenware clay. We use low-fire clay in the studio because most firings there are at Cone 06 and they can all go into the kiln together. However, the hand building techniques would be the similar. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for the tutorial, very helpful. Question please. You do a one firing process on these using Elements? No bisque firing then glazing? Thank you!
@TheBeesKneesPottery Жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, a one time firing. I use Mayco stroke and Coats mostly but, I have also used elements. I leave one side, like the inside of the trees open with out anything for out gassing. I'm quite generous with the paint for each coat. I just fire to a cone 06 but you can fire to a cone 04 if you need it to be more durable as most of their paints easily fire to that temperature. I'm so glad that you found the video helpful. Thank you!

Thanks! Any ideas on what I can use to leave nothing in the cone? My studio will not let me leave anything in the cone…paper etc.
@TheBeesKneesPottery Жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn. You can easily take the cone out. Make sure you leave some space at the bottom to take hold of it. I also like to twist the cone often as I'm working to make sure it's not stuck. Just lightly twist the cone as you go along and you'll be set at the end to just lift it off. I hope this helps.

We're Sorry you don't recognize the reasons we use the disposable workspace shown here and provided in the To-go Kits we sell from our studio. The simple, low cost, useful materials found in our kits help introduce many people to the art of clay hand building in the comfort of their homes. Of course, the use of these materials is optional.

What kind of glaze are you using, please? Stroke and Coat? Interesting to paint while damp and unfired. Thanks. Suzanne
@TheBeesKneesPottery2 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzanne The Stroke n Coats are Mayco glazes. It's important to leave a bare area- like we did on the inside of the gnome- to get a better finish. It also allows an escape area for any moisture or gasses that need to escape when firing.

I just made a Biker Gnome. I gave it to my husband yesterday for his birthday. He loved it. Its a lot smaller than yours. Its about 3" tall. I put him on a river rock. We have a few plastic motorcycles from a mobile. I am going to fix them and put one on a river rock next to the biker. Now my husband wants me to make one riding one of the other bikes. Lol.

Hi JoJo's Mum! You can use air dry clay if you paint and seal it, but it will be more fragile. As with all clay, be sure to bring it in during freezing temperatures. Hope you have fun making all your gnome buddies.

@TheBeesKneesPottery3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruby! Thank you for watching. I'm glad you like them. Yes, I take the cone out before firing. But, if for some reason they get stuck because of the way the clay is formed, I have left them in during firing. They will burn away. But it's not an ideal situation.

I loved it Do you grill the piece you made? How do you do that if you do not have a special oven for barbecue, and what do you recommend for that and for coloring?
@TheBeesKneesPottery3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We are using clay that does need a kiln to fire it to turn it into ceramic. There may be a ceramic studio near you to get supplies and firing. We use glazes to paint the pieces. It makes a lovely glass like appearance. If you do not have a studio near you, maybe you could find air drying clay and acrylic paints at a local craft store. It would look a bit different, but you use the same techniques used in this video. Best of Luck- glad you enjoyed the video.
