Not only rural areas... that is an everyday practice within the towns as well. People are lazy when it comes to properly bagging their garbage for proper disposal, so they resort to burning it and the worst part is that they do it at night... garbage burns slower and the smoke stays at lower heights affecting all the neighborhood while they sleep (not everyone has the luxury of AC, so most sleep with the windows louvers cracked to allow fresh air to go in).
