There is nothing unfair or unjust about a trans woman competing in a sport and winning. Trans competitors have their hormone levels monitored closely and can only compete once it's within a normal rage for their gender. Lia Thomas specifically didn't even beat her competitors by much, it was neck and neck the whole time. Despite the odds, she practiced and practiced and fairly won a victory. What's unfair and unjust is her victory being chalked up to "biological sex" implying both that women couldn't naturally beat men in any given sport and that a person who has devoted her life to swimming hasn't actually earned any merit. Transphobia hurts everyone and has no biblical basis. Seeing a trans woman win a sport and brushing it off as unearned is exactly the kind of baseless discrimination that sets the church apart from the world in a negative sense, and was disappointed to hear it come into an otherwise good sermon.

This sermon is really well intentioned and there's a bounty of truth to receive from it! That being said though, framing the samaritan woman's history as though her history of having many husbands is somehow indicative of a personal flaw of hers: like some type of "sexual brokenness" or chasing after fulfilment totally misunderstands how marriage works in this historical context. It is highly unlikely that she had been divorced so many times of her own doing and very nearly impossible it was for any superfluous reasons. It is much more likely that the woman was struggling with infertility and that she had been put away by several men for not being able to produce a child. Taking into account the fact that women were not able to participate in society without a male figure to accompany them (brother, child, cousin, or husband) this woman was forced into an endless loop of trying to get married for survival and being cast aside when she was unable to reproduce: gaining shame on her own name through no fault of her own. Christ doesn't just offer her in the moment freedom from the neverending cycle, but the fulfilment of being seen as a person and not as a broken piece of a man.

Praise the Lord! Happy is the person who honours the Lord, who takes pleasure in obeying His commands. The good man's children will be powerful in the land, his descendants will be blessed. His family will be wealthy and rich and he will be prosperous forever. Light shines in the darkness for good people, for those who are merciful, kind and just. Happy is the person who is generous with his loans, who runs his business honestly. A good person will never fail, he will be powerful in the land. He is not afraid of receiving bad news, his faith is strong and he trusts in the Lord. He is not worried or afraid,he is certain to see his enemies defeated. He gives generously to the needy, his kindness lasts forever,he will be powerful and respected. The wicked see this and are angry, they glare with hate and disappear, their hopes are gone forever!

Trinitarians love to use this verse to promote the Trinity. “His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 The problem is: this translation comes from an Alexandrian manuscript from Egypt which was found in a trash can with a lot of words blacked out! The Septuagint notes that the Alexandrian manuscript added the following: “Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty One, Potentate, Prince of Peace.” All of these names but one are gone in the NEB. “His name is called the Messenger of Great Counsel: for I will bring peace upon the princes and health to him.” Isaiah 9:6 NEB
