This is wonderful stuff. I'm a race fan. Full stop. Born 61 so 16/17 when this happened and this month August 23 I'm 62 and absolutely full of joy and happiness watching this. I was fortunate to go to Aus many many times in the 80's and 90's working for an airline. And boy did you guys make an impression on me. Wonderful people wonderful times, thank you. Can't celebrate this enough. And I've always got time for an underdog.. Sad to hear that Alan Moffat has dementia but glad he's being taken care of. God bless Australia.

Yeeup, was close to 17 and a half, a bud from school organized tickets to travel up Sunday morning on a train that was run back then to ferry people along the Western Line on race day, we borded at Penrith even though we lived in the mountains, the train only stopped at major stops, got fed microwaved rolls with bacon and some stuff on them, they were soggy, my buds made a joke of it but I enjoyed the experience, used a months holidays in 2017 to travel in my camper and watch the event over the entirety ... memories!

As a FORD Fan this win never loses it's enjoyment ! To have both Moffat team race cars go side by side on conrod straight has to be the ultimate smack in the face to all Holden drivers and fans then and 46 yrs later :)

these were real cars you could actually go and buy. road cars endurance racing will always be more exciting than watching 50 of the same race chassis with different skins parade around the track in one big circus.

@@6226superhurricanewell you could buy the car they were based on . Falcons had 525 hp Torana 400hp approximately. The road cars you say people could buy had under 220hp Falcon and around 230hp Torana.

With thanks to reliable 'Inside Sources', Mark Riley is a disrespectful fucking grub, who wouldn't know the meaning of the words "Journalistic Integrity," if it jumped up and bit him on the ass!! Mr Abbott was RIGHT to give him the silent passive / aggressive treatment, for even questioning him, his intent and his integrity over his comments, which were deliberately taken out of context, to create a media driven "storm in a teacup" for ratings. It was also done to falsely suggest that Mr Abbott's comments were made as a direct correlation to the death of the Soldiers, which is not only absolute BULLSHIT, but so typical of the gutter trash Journalism that people have come to expect from Mark Riley over the years! You only have to look at the extreme lengths that Mark Riley went too, with this "Freedom of Information Battle," like a dog who wouldn't let go of a bone, just to obtain the footage. Because nobody blames Mr Abbott's office for doing their best to shut this bullshit down, cos they knew that Mark Riley was hell bent on attacking him over it, like the mongrel dog that he is! It must have been such a slow news day for them to be that desperate! I'm also not surprised by the number of people who have never forgiven Mark Riley for what he did, cos over the years, the grub hasn't gotten any better! Certainly wouldn't trust that fucker, as far as I could piss on him!

I think the team's would have known and acknowledged that too. He could have floored it 8 or 10 laps earlier and cruised home for the win himself, easily. But sportsmanship and team racing orders said he weren't to. I'll give him the win though...

Yes those last 8 odd laps must have got his blood boiling, I too have always thought of this as a Bondy win. The 1-2 line up down Conrod was Bond demonstrating how easily he could have taken the flag.

Sad thing is, in the end, that ship gets its revenge, shorting down the serenity, and killing Wash. they held a grudge. at the same time it was sort of a nice circle for everything to open with those 2 ships, then end with the same two ships.

Russian submarines used to do it to evade US submarines tailing them. They would turn 180° and go full speed. The US submarines would have to get out of the way or be hit. Which would of course damage both submarines.

The Fords took everything the Vauxhall Toranas could throw at them - in the end the A9X -12 of them broke down during the race.

@@jettsaraghimotorsport4017 They were built on Vauxhall floor pans, GMH factory built GM's British products, Vauhall being one of the GM owned brands till an Australian Car was designed and slowly replaced I've seen pictures of Vauhalls on the production line in between Australian models, some Aus GMH cars were built on other GM products

@The_Jaguar_ Knight - who mentioned anything about the Granada’s. I was making light of the fact the Torana’s DNA , floorplan , chassis body was originally Opel / Vauxhall heritage. The XD was actually an Australian design by Wayne Draper . The only part that was the same were the headlights. That’s it. The falcon was wider , longer and different floor plan , different chassis. The XA to XC were designed in Australia by jack Temack. With more of an American influence.

Not the right language to be using in front of service members.
