Giordani should have never left his lyric tenor repertoire. Heard him live early in his career in "Les Pêcheurs de Perles". He had one of the most beautiful lyric voices I've ever heard. Misguided by people around him or by his own ambitions led him to sing heavier roles. Sadly, he died way too young. "

It was in the early nineties when I worked with Marcello during a production of Romeo et Juliette . A nice , friendly guy who had just arrived from parts unknown in order do some last minute choreography for Mercutio’s dual and death scene. After I had dutifully expired in Romeo’s arms we had a few moments to chat. I met his wife and their little dachshund. He also told me how he worshipped Franco Corelli. He was in good shape then, but just ten short years later I saw him in the street and almost didn’t recognize him….how heavy he had gotten. I imagine that with his schedule he had made little time for exercise and I can understand how this may have eventually contributed to his heart attack. Listening to him now , I recognize what a great talent he was and how his fascination with the heavier repertoire may have taken some of the bloom off of his beautiful lyric tenor. However, his easy high notes were left intact!. RIP , cher Romèo

Please slow down!!!! Your voice is worth it!!! You are singing repertoire that is low in tessirura but it is too heavy for you now. I would love to hear you in 20 years do this rep, but now, you will reck your voice. You have a lot of baritone quality in your voice, but you can sing as a tenor. Slow down and sing the low tenor roles. Stay away from Wagnerian roles for now.

He scoops into every high note and also to any note that is intervalically-above the previous note: this is an annoying mannerism, giving an overall lazy singing style. And he sings much of the aria in a bland, semi-comatose manner, detached from or unaware of the text. This is the type of mediocrity be accepted and cast today by ignorant general directors and stupid audiences. He has a basic instrument but seemingly little else. Maybe a good coach and some Pepto Bismol could cure the scooping??
