This was one of the Iowa teams I got to enjoy growing up when I was 10, those days were magic.

I was 13 years old and watching this game in a hotel room with my younger brother, grandpa and grandma. I don't remember if my grandma was watching but I know that us boys were glued to the screen of the cheap hotel TV watching this drive. I will never forget the joy of hugging my grandpa after the final game winning pass. It is in my top 3 favorite hawkeye memories. My grandpa died 3 years later. This game will always hold a special spot in my heart for that reason.

Finding out about Tyler Sash now after he died and with Micah Hyde and Kirk Cousins entering free agency. R.I.P. Tyler Sash.😢

That was a completely Bad-Ass play no matter what team you followed. I happen to be a Hawkeye and that absolutely sucked being a Spartan that day.

Will never forget this one! That catch from McNutt! This squad was awesome during this time! 🖤💛

Kirk at 54 (when this game was played) looks like his son Brian today (who has to be fifteen years younger than his dad in 2009)

These Hawks would have won the national title if Stanzi hadn't gotten hurt against jNW. Heck, they nearly beat Ohio State with Vandenberg!
@drewlenz5877 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t have made it. Alabama was #1, Florida was #2, and Texas was #3 at the end. Florida and Bama played in the SEC championship game to determine who was going, Texas stayed undefeated. Would have been #3 going to the rose bowl if they went undefeated. I think they would win that but they would have missed the Natty based on the BCS System. Bama beat Texas by like 45 points I think, prob would have done the same to Iowa. That was one of the best CFB teams of all time.
@aaronrider4051 Жыл бұрын
@@drewlenz5877 Your memory, to put it mildly, is way off. Alabama did not beat Texas by 45. Alabama beat Texas 37-21. The score was 24-21 with 3 min to play. This was all without UT's starting QB. Not an impressive performance by Alabama.
@aaronrider4051 Жыл бұрын
@@drewlenz5877 The BCS Computer Average *loved* the 2009 Hawkeyes. Had Iowa remained unbeaten, they would have taken #2 from Texas, particularly after Texas's atrocious performance against Nebraska.

Mirror image occured in MSU's favor in 2015 B1G championship with LJ Scott reaching across the goal line in the final minute with MSU (4) down 13-9 to Iowa (5) to avoid an upset. Surprised that wasn't brought up at that time.

"Can your guy beat their guy". While that's true, the brilliant call here was putting Moaki in motion across the formation to secure the one on one matchup on the top. Without that, McNutt wouldn't have had that inside screen move.

I'm not a fan of either team but for whatever reason I watch this play right at the start of every season. I think about how beautiful the atmosphere was that day and how wild the crowd was as that int unfolded. And when I heard Tyler Sash had passed away, this video was the first thing I thought of. He had a positive effect on some random cfball fan RIP

i was at this game. my gma before she passed away in 2020 used to buy season tickets to iowa games every year since the mid 80s so i’m a big iowa fan obviously. you’re right though when he picked it off and lateraled it the crowd got louder and the closer hyde got to the endzone i remember the crowd was getting louder like “NO WAY! NO WAY!” then the place just exploded when he dove for it and made it

It's funny how similar of an effect this play had on me that season too. Freshman year of college watching games with dorm buddies in the common room. Was so jacked for the season after watching this.

Seriously one of the best plays in Iowa history and in the NCAA. You don’t see a lot of interceptions lateralled off like that and to have it work like it did. Most players will keep it and try to score themselves. Sash was a team player and so electric on that defense. He will be missed dearly and never forgotten in Hawkeye Nation. Thank you for the memories, #9.
