I was born about the time of this issue. And through the years, spent searching out and hoarding Jack's work,in any compendium, through foggy, darkened avenues, soot filled hills and valleys, like a nocturnal specter endlessly looking for the next, overlooked horde of Jack's marvel books. In through the years, through the sweat, fear, filth, muck, cold and sorrow until pooptube came along. Now I breathlessly wait for the next announcement from hascrap to see how the fellas will interprete one of Jack's awesome characters made into plastic action figure dollies. Then if the engineering meets my approval I'll greedily grab what I can from the ilk spilling out of hascrap's butt. Living from action figure dolly to action figure dolly. Thanks Jacob 😂❤

When I first read Kirby's Fourth World comics as a kid in the '70s I did find them kind of strange with the wonky dialogue and characters. I hate to say it now, but sometimes even a little silly. Recently I've been re-reading the New Gods and I'm impressed by the amazing amount of work he put into these comics, and their passionate, personal tone. It feels like he was really trying to communicate something very important to him rather than cranking out funny books for kids. I'm coming away from this with a whole new respect for Kirby as an artist and as a man.

According to Edward Neumer (Co Creator of Robocop) the character was inspired from _ Iron Man, ROM the Spaceknight_ , and _Machine Man_-but they forgot to mention that Robocop's true inspiration was from 1974's *Deathlok the Demolisher* .

That was great lol, seeing this now makes me think what if Peter Weller were to be in a live action Machine Man movie, which would have worked perfectly. Nice review.

I know I have a couple of these stashed away... somewhere... How many issues of Machine Man did he do? Great images. Jack had such bold style and never missed a beat. Who was doing the inking on these? Nice mash-up. It would have been cool to see Jack directly adapt the Alex Murphy Chronicles. Much enjoyed, Fred.

Thanks, Tony. Jack did 9 issues after the 3-story run in "2001" #8-10. Mike Royer did the inks.

Jack Kirby's drawings of Sue Storm in the 1960's were stunningly beautiful, I wondered if there were any real-life females that were part of his inspirations.

Should I or should I not be a pain in the butt?.... YEAH I WILL. .... In 0:54 this is their SECOND GO AROUND with the engagement. Sue was clear in Fantastic Four # 1, page 9, panel 4, that they were engaged before they received their powers Maybe Jack and Stan forgot or maybe that period of fickleness were she mooned over Namor K.O.-ed the engagement. This was never depicted in the series, so I have to assume Sue broke off the engagement because Jack and Stan had this nasty habit of presenting Reed as SIMP..... OFF TOPIC: Oh, how I hated seeing Richards lacking self-respect.... A FREAKING LAP DOG LIVING FOR SUE'S ATEENTION!!! Why? We see Reed being grabbed by so many females in FF # 14 page 3 panel 3... UGHHH I hated the pre-issue # 27 toxic romance angle.

Yep, enjoyed all these comix, including the FF Annual that turned out to be a reprint of a couple early FF stories. (was the cover a reprint, or was that original Kirby art?) I know that portions of that Galactus origin were reprinted in that Super Villain Classics one-shot from 1983. I agree that Kirby's art still popped and was spectacular to look at, but as you have already mentioned, the storytelling by this point was very cliched and derivative. However, they were still treasures to behold.

Kirby's art went beyond just comics. It's, it's own pop art, spashy, flashy! Some of his comicbook art was more design then illustration. As a kid, just the cover of "NEW GODS" #1 "forced" me to buy it. And, at that.time I was a total DC "SGT ROCK", "GI COMBAT The Haunted Tank", "Russ Heath" fan.✨💫

All your videos are great Fred, but the choice of music and the wonderful text you wrote for this presentation was topped off with that iconic picture of Jack at the end and your closing thought. I don't know why, but when I read the part with the mention about the drugstores, I teared up and was instantly transported back in my mind to where I bought the majority of my comics as a boy and young teen! Thanks for that Fred!

Thanks for the fabulous memories. These two books represent some of the best of Jack's in my opinion. Although the strained relationship prevailed during this time, both Jack and Stan were capable of producing some wonderous comics. Thanks for your efforts on this video - it was great!

Geez. Another of my favorite genres is the Italian Peplum films of the 50s and 60s. But the Kirby touch turns it up yet another notch. Steve Forrest of Apollo Star Trek OS played Atlas, but he certainly wasn't as massive as Jack's version. Make Mine Kirby!

I don't think that the abduction of Alicia was a kindly act. I know that Hamilton is the only one among them who shows any compassion towards Alicia. The concept of the story arc was supposed to have been influenced by Kirby's reading of Objectivism, a very black and white ideology concerning good and evil. The character of Hamilton reveals a greyer area however, that I'm not sure is entirely Lee's or Kirby's idea. Lee didn't favour the principles of Objectivism, who liked villains who were evil but mad. The same ideology caused him to finally fall out with Steve Ditko, over the Green Goblin's origin in "Spider Man", because Lee wanted a more psychotic character. It's a pity that these two issues caused a rift and the creative energy of Kirby dwindled. It wasn't all "doom and gloom" however, Annihilus was one new character, appearing in the 1968 annual. Great story arcs still appeared, such as the Galactus/Silver Surfer saga, that I think was at least as good as the Dr Doom/Silver Surfer one, that had also got by without any new characters. Kirby and Sinnott still did some great art. The god-like "Him" was reintroduced in "Thor", where a few new characters still appeared. Torgo was another new, great character in the "Fantastic Four", that wouldn't be touched again by Lee and Kirby. The last year of their partnership wasn't fruitful, but they'd been a long time together, and Kirby wanted to go to DC so that he could start his "New Gods" project on his own.

Lee was an excellent writer whose characterisation, dialogue, introspection and themes matured throughout the 1960s. I think he did even better on comics he wrote later without Kirby. Kirby's art was probably more awesome than Lee's writing style in terms of actual power.
