LaToya M Hobbs is a woodblock goddess! Show at MAM is astoundingly beautiful. Revisited the show at length with fellow woodblock printer to consider her process -- unbelievable carving skills! So glad she was able to partner with BIG INK to produce such fine prints.

I'm not familiar with Flavin but will research further. I'm curious if there is color mixing along the deckled edges where the white paper is thinner, and the saturated paper could affect the bounced light. Combinations shown with Purple and Yellow, or Red and Green seem like the mixed regions would produce a grayer tone of the field color, but I didn't notice that happening in the smaller prints.

This is one very cool instructional! When I first took the ASVAB for the Navy the first job they recommended was Lithographer's Mate. It didn't seem very cool at the time but now that I have found my creative side 20 years later I see that I had an artistic side in me all along! Thanks for the video!

Will people pls search the web to understand the West led by the British, French and Americans exploited China in the 19th Century by force with military, colonialism and addicting the Chinese population with opium? Key words, John Jacob Astor, the first American multi-millionaire; Warren Delano, grandfather-in-law of FDR, and many more "donor class' of the Gilded Age struck riched from opium money. The Yuanming Yuan Summer Palace in Beijing was looted by the British and the French reportedly 14 billion dollars worth of art were stolen as accounted for by an auction expert on KZbin in 2023. Acquiring stolen artwork is illegal and illicit. Harvard might as well build a museum to celebrate the dropping of the atomic bombs in Japan to showcase the dead and the forever occupying of Japan. In fact, you can do the same Latin Amerito celebrate the success of American imperialism in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the rest of the world. What Harvard regards as high class is in fact shamefully low class. It's shame of our planet if not the solar system.

Was this perhaps thrown together out of jealousy to generate funds as so many carnival and sideshows of that era? May the lack of interest fueled the heartlessness of ruthless men?

Another great video, thank you. This is the first time I’ve seen how woodcut works and you explained it very well. I like how the image looks with just black and green too- I suppose this is one of the advantages to printing- that you can vary the colours with multiple prints. I’d love to see a video by yourself on screen printing and also on registration options.

At 35.30 when the audience was a little bit disappointed of the beautiful flower bouquet and the "story", he instead could have said the poem that was written in the year 1648: "Gather ye Rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying: And this same flower that smiles to day,Tomorrow will be...." THEN changing the picture and I´m sure, the audience will complete unisono with: "dying."

When she sets the inked lino cut onto the bed of the press, she places the 'guides' around the lino (the 2 right angle / corner pieces). These corner pieces then have additional 'guides' or slots(?) on top of them which are set out to the dimensions of the paper she is printing on - these guides allow the paper to sit on top of the inked lino in the exact place each time. Once the paper is sitting on the inked surface, she removes the guides and then prints.

Actually, Hidalgo Arnéra did not invent the reduction linocut method either. It seems to have been around for at least a decade or more before he demonstrated the technique to Picasso. There's a very interesting article about the history of the technique here - www.printsandprintmaking.gov.au/references/5333/

A rare pleasure, to see an artist not only use a scholarly theory competently in the service of her art, but actually substantially improve on the theory.
