What I really love about this story is that it shows how much trust we place in people who claim to have expert knowledge. Only a tiny handful of people in the world are capable of hiring a submersible to go down to check out the wreck of the Titanic, so we just have to take Cameron at his word when he says all those little details in the film are authentic. Cameron getting the sky wrong fucks up that trust. Neil was sitting in the movie theater looking at the lazily mirrored stars and asking himself "if this guy was willing to mess up an easily verifiable detail, then I wonder how much of the unverifiable details in this movie are BS."

Her disgusting, irrational anti-semetic views were common knowledge. She was never shy at hiding them. The Nazis would have loved her. She is quite a repulsive character if truth be known, famous for her rather grandiose embellishments of the truth. I'm not surprised the Irish see her as some sort of heroine: they have a profound and well-established history of subterfuge and cruelty involving children. You only have to think of all the Mother/Baby homes, Industrial schools, Magdalene laundries, church child sexual abuse...always covered up...the list is endless. Yet the Irish will continue to play the Holier Than Thou card. In their efforts to achieve independence they truly sold their souls to the devil.

He was absolutely a precursor of Libertarian Socialists. Never owned slaves, was anti slavery, pro freedom, against borders, and felt everyone should share a portion of their earnings for a socialist style safety net, everyone should have a house, field of food and a gun and we get rid of the government. Straight up Libertarian Socialism.
