In my game world, orcs (or goblinkind) were a slave race bred by an offshoot group of elves I call the Leshi, using their own genetic material and that of carnivorous apes. The result was a very strong but short-tempered creature, long lived but not immortal, with the spark of intelligence, though not so much as their creators. After thousands of years of servitude they rebelled, winning their freedom and decimating the Leshi. They still hate the Leshi above all else and do not differentiate between them and their cousins the Elves.

And it is written that it will happen again, that all the kingdoms of Logres, which once was the land of ogres, will be destroyed by that lance. The ogres in this rhyme may refer to the ogres who were, in the pseudohistorical work History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth, the inhabitants of Britain before human settlement. Also, in the word Kyuketsuki (the Japanese Vampire) Demon and Ogre have the same translation Kyuketsuki refers to a type of vampire. Upiors were Vengeful Spirits that possessed corpses usually the corpses of loved ones that would then puppet the bodies to enact revenge across the living to sustain themselves they had to consume blood and steal life force in the process Strigoi were Poltergeists that could pilot corpses and had several powers including the ability to transform into animals or mist when Eastern European Folklore began being documented in the 17th century it gave the appearance of a new word 'Vampir" which then became "Vampyre" in 1732 John Polidori's short story "The Vampyre" in 1819 truly was the first inflection point for these creatures transforming them from demons and ghouls to suave charismatic aristocrats with a thirst for blood which was inspired by Vlad Dracula the III Tepes many years later that became more mainstream when Bram Stoker released "Dracula". Cruel, monstrous, ugly, brutish, man-eating giant is how ogres are described so that could mean any giant that fits that description or any demon could go in the Ogre category.

Sorry I wasn't made aware that this was happening until stumbling upon it now. I would've joined the discussion in a heartbeat (either through the chat or VC). My take on that Kaiju definition, is that its very much steeped in colloquialism. The word Kaiju itself is to my knowledge Japanese for monster or weird beast. So in a literal application of the term, I think any non-human-like monster would qualify. The more international modern use of the word is very much tied to the genre itself. And if some movies, like Godzilla and its sequels, can easily fit in some box of "really really really big monster goes on rampage", some quintessential Kaiju movies (Godzilla movies among them) would seemingly break that mold while still being considered Kaiju movies. Which then begs the question: what IS the definition of a Kaiju movies. Short answer: I don't know. If we define a kaiju merely by a destructive monster of enormous size, can one such monster appear in a subsequent movie where he doesn't destroy things? Would the movie qualify as Kaiju? would the monster qualify as Kaiju by virtue of doing destruction in the past? Can a movie be Kaiju if the featured Kaiju doesn't do Kaiju things anymore? Many famous Kaiju are notoriously benevolent in nature. Mothra, Godzilla, some versions of King Kong, Baragon and even Ghidorah. As the genre has evolved and expanded, its become a lot harder to really define outside of just featuring a giant creature in it. Its a bit similar to trying to define a categorical difference between the traditional definition of a hero in fiction and a superhero. Is Samson a superhero by virtue of his superhuman strength? Is Batman a superhero in spite of lacking superpowers?

I do want to say I don't want to go too fast because if we just let your video play and barely comment it on it that would not be fair to you, I would rather people go watch your video in full as well as ours. I understand if you don't want to come on, or unable to. There's nothing wrong with making videos instead of doing live streams, I personally do a mix of both and they're completely different skill sets. I would not want you to feel obligated to come on and then say something out of turn that you would not have said if you had recorded it.

Im getting tired of these types of videos where its clear the person doesn't understand the 5e ecosystem. Things like harping on the fact that buying a item on dnd beyond isn't a pdf and is actually on the site or complaining omg look at all these trinkets they added to the bundle for free like the backgrounds and dice demonstrate a disingenuous or ignorant understanding of the platform and the goals involved. Dndbeyond is doesn't do pdf because the books are integrated into their character builder. Also lets be real here the reason they don't do pdf is to mitigate piracy a rampant issue in the digital ttrpg space. Buying the books comes with the additional functionality of their ecosystem. Things like the digital assets are free additions to the bundle. Sweeteners that nobody really cares about but provided for free to the already existing price aren't a huge deal. As you say they exists just for you there is no advantage or benefit to the items other than they are free and pretty with the bundle. Not to mention calling the dnd beyond a virtual tabletop. Its a character builder I also find the hatred for preorders so bizarre. Books constantly do preorders. The company benefits as they get a better idea of the distribution needed at launch and the customer benefits from buying the thing they were gonna buy at a reduced cost or with additional benefits. Its a mutual benefit. Not to mention they actively encourage buying from LGS stores by providing a better form of the book only available at in person stores. The books are almost certainly staggered for two reasons one is to stagger the impact on the customer wallets. 60 dollars vs 180 dollars upfront is a considerable impact on a persons budget at any given time. The second is development and distribution allowing them to focus more heavily on each individual release. Its also not like the game is unplayable without all three. You can 100% play dnd with only the players handbook and while the dmg and MM are nice existing material is easily accessible. This isn't a new edition it is a rewrite of the core rules and compatible with the other material so any of that can be used in the mean time. I do think theres a valid argument that for new players the lack of a dmg at release is a misstep but i think that's complety different argument than the one made here. The books are clearly marked as a staggered release this isn't trying to be deceptive. Dnd beyond acess tiers make sense one is for players and one is for DM's . The first essentially simplifies down to one can make unlimited characters and the other simplifies down to unlimited characters and can share content for a campaign. They could make that all one category but it would almost certainly be the more expensive one since that one essentially provides all the functionality of the books for free to the players in the campaign. The simpler "hero" tier provides a cheaper alternative and it should be noted that dndbeyond is incredibly easy as a non gm to use free. If your in a campaign just like in tabletop physical the gm carries most of the financial burden and the others have a low cost of play. None of the cosmetics or these practices are new. they aren't trying to make more money. they have been doing presales and the little cosmetic additions and the tiers long before the ogl controversy . Also becuase it bugs me the case with the AI stuff was the commissioned artist using AI not the company. They have positions for AI but its for use in videogames not in the ttrpg design or art teams. Im not familiar with the wizkids drama but i can't be alone in thinking the model looks basically the same as the art in the adjacent image like its not that different. As for the brazil stuff its not merely the translation stuff. They took over control of the publishing side in the market from a local branch they commision. Theres a whole debate about whether they should have done that but kinda irrelevant to the decision to stop ( although you can make an argument if they didn't make this decision helped pave the way, but that a whole can of worms i do not have enough information to litigate right in wrong of the dispute between the two companies) . There happened to be a wierd event happen. You might have heard of it. Covid. led to economic downturn. The brazil project was an expansion into the market and became financially no longer wise to fund that expansion with no immediate returns. if it was as simple as having a single translator im sure they would have done it but running an entire printing and logistical team in brazil was no longer in the cards

Yeah, this business model is a crash waiting to happen as far as I can see. Ttrpgs are not video games and operate under different business model constraints. D&D, specifically, is so much bigger than its competition because of name recognition, accessibility, and the system lending better to appealing to multiple styles of engagement and experience than other systems, the latter of which all increase the accessibility. Ttrpgs largely require three or more people seeking a similar engagement and/or experience out of their game, using the same system, at the same place or platform, at the same time, in the same language. For an activity with somewhere around fifteen to twenty million active players _globally,_ that is not a lot of players, let alone for an activity that most people have never heard of and with wonky rules and lore to learn. D&D is dominant because its barrier to entry is so much lower than other ttrpgs. It is relatively cheap to get the bare minimum of playable rules (and ttrpgs are cheap baseline hobby to begin with), there are an order of magnitude (or several) more players, more mainstream, etc. This vttrpg is looking to require a medium to lower end of high-end computer, microtransactions (and not small ones) totalling to a fairly high cost... while they clearly going after the whale/leviathan business model a la AAA and gacha games, I think they have drastically overestimated the number of whales/leviathans in this market. There are not enough players who can or will buy into this for the whales to have much of anyone to play with, the non-pvp design limits their ability to sell power desired due to in-game competition, and if there are not enough players or hype a lot of the whales will never join or leave. WotC could have had almost guaranteed and uncontestable success in creating a walled garden had they waited a little longer for subscription models to become more tolerated by the general population and focused on accessibility via low end user-requirements, a mild freemium model, AI-DM premade modules with LfG matchmaking across premade adventure modules (a la automated Adventurer's League), etc. As it is, I am expecting a repeat of 4e-a massive investment that, while it makes more than its competition ik absolute numbers, makes a terrible return on investment and causes a massive lull in people entering ttrpgs as a whole. They critically misidentified their business model and target audience.
