This was extremely insightful man ive been playing drums for 16 years which made me very "stuck in my ways" and could never progress past 140bpm on a good day. After a year long hiatus now im taking the same exact steps to focus on each bpm and not just force my legs and give up when i dont get results. I watched the same video from martyn and i was able to start at 190 with each foot but im getting those flams and unison strokes when i bring them together, which was concerning, glad im not alone in this. Greatly appreciated +1 sub!
@filip.gaddnas6 ай бұрын
@@Zarthian Hey man! Thanks so much, I appreciate it very much🙏 Glad to hear that you can somewhat relate to what I also have been going through on this "foot journey". I also had flams when I started in thay same tempo area but relatively quickly I was able to have my feet do a clean roll :) So don't give up man, it's a rocky path but I promise you'll get results once you keep going!! You got this!💪

Any tips wrt developing the swivel motion? My body simply does not allow me to execute it well lol
@filip.gaddnas7 ай бұрын
I would say that sometimes the body does the motion naturally, but it's also possible to learn it mechanichly. For me it happened kind of by a combination of those. I know some drummers who have learned it mechanichly and I think the best tip for that could to work on the swivel motion on a very slow tempo(let's say 100 bpm ish) and try to get the motion in your muscle memory. You could do this without the pedals even, just use the floor for example :) I hope this helped a bit and let me know if you have any more questions!
@diogorodrigues82657 ай бұрын
hey bro, do you have a video or tips how did you learned the ankle motion ?
@filip.gaddnas7 ай бұрын
Hey! Yeah, here I talk about my journey with double bass a bit more and I share what was a turning point with the ankle technique: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqK1iICHgbp-adk The big turning point was basically this Instagram clip by Marthyn Jovanovic, it changed my thinking on double bass and the use of ankle: instagram.com/reel/CiuRRWtgnTw/? If you have any questions please feel free to ask or if you would like to discuss the topic even more, I'm also available for a online lesson if that's something you are looking for :) I hope this helped a bit, Thank you and have a nice day!

Hey bro, how important for you is your seat be above 90 degrees ?
@filip.gaddnas5 ай бұрын
@@diogorodrigues8265 Thanks for the question! I think its quite important. If you sit too low some of your muscles get too tense and same thing if you sit too high up. When sitting at 90 degrees and slightly above, it is the most natural for the muscles in your legs to stay relaxed!
