Nine Sols is definitely one of those special kinds of games that only comes around every once in a while. The story, the characters, the world, the gameplay, the music. It all comes together into an experience that stays with you long after the credits finish rolling...and then leaves you with a hollow feeling as you're left wondering "Ok, so...what now?"

Honestly this game had such a great presentation throughout the whole thing, from the power plant to the lab. Yi's transformation was really nice, and the sols characterization was phenomenal. None of them wanted to question the environment forever and wanted to stay in the past, which ironically until the end Yi held onto the past which couldn't be saved. The sols are charactized well, as they all killed themselves in the end, as Yi didn't finish any of them off, even with Eigong because once she transformed herself into the monster she killed her legacy, and this applies to Yi as well as he fired the arrow and ended his own life to save everyone from the fate of the virus. I believe the song represents Yi's transcendence into something greater than life, going between earth and heaven. I'd like to believe when he opens his eyes at the end of the song he's somehow revived on a long-lost root node, but I think the reality is after he visited Heng in the afterlife, he finally woke up in the limitless realm and reunited with Lear ending his journey.

I'm late to the party but just wanted to send something your way saying how AMAZING this game was. I love metroidvania styles games and boss battles but this game really engages you. You made me care about these characters, feel for them as they moved through the story, and did a great job trickling information so that it felt like I was unraveling a mystery. I'm sad to be finished with it, honestly. Can't wait for your next game. Would recommend 10/10. Great job and thank you!
