As a distant family member, I just can not get over the fact that the name of this great man gets to be butchered by so many pundits on the Great Siege and on Maltese history in general. His name was Jean de LaValette, and he was born in a small town called Parisot in Tarn-et-Garonne. Hence, the occasional add-on to his surname. Furthermore, this grand master was not a prince, as mentioned in this clip, although he was obviously of noble heritage, with an occasional duke as well as marquises, and counts being members of his family.

Thanks for your detailed study of Caravaggio. I've seen the Beheading of St John here in Canada at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. I believe it was on loan from Malta.

Very interesting. While in the employ of the PWD in the Engineer Valletta :Section I the facade of St John's was our responsibilty during 1960 and earlier. Mortimer and DeGiorgio did the work overlooking Merchants Street of the same church.
