Let's ask for the help of the many women who are educated in theology and pastoral ministry and are experienced in leading groups, bringing people together and listening from their work in the private and public sector since clericalism kept them from finding work in the church.

Dear Bishops, please don't think that we don't need synodality here in the US. We do! In every parish. Our parish council signs NDAs, lectors are forced to read prayers that align with the pastor's political orientation or be kicked out and, of course, priests and pastor shun and exclude anyone who does not agree with their ideologies and even actively support isolation and exclusion of people who might have differing views, experiences and consciences.

It is risible that the speaker talks first about religious liberty, and then advances the view that the Catholic position on contraception be imposed on the entire population.

Suppose that someone does not believe that "artificial contraception" is morally wrong, and, like Kevin Roberts, you believe that it is. How might you attempt to convince the other person to share your view? Perhaps you might argue that taking birth control pills results in the destruction of fertilized human egg cells so that one is killing a young human being, and therefore that since killing a human being is murder, and so is very seriously wrong, so is artificial contraception. If the person you're talking to happens to know that you are, like Kevin Roberts, a Catholic, she or he might ask you whether you accept the official Catholic argument against abortion - an argument that employs the view that humans, at some point, acquire immaterial, rational souls, so that abortion may very well destroy living beings with immaterial souls. (Contrary to what is widely believed, the Catholic Church has never affirmed that God implants an immaterial soul into fertilized human egg cells at the moment they come into existence.) If you do accept the official Catholic argument against abortion, the person you're talking with may point out that there is massive evidence against the view that humans possess immaterial rational souls - including the ways in which one's capacity to think, remember, etc. can change both as one ages, and due to brain injuries, with which mental capacities are destroyed depending upon specifically which part of the brain has been destroyed - something that makes no sense if rational capacities reside in an immaterial soul. It is not an accident, then, that one would be hard-pressed indeed, as surveys have found, to find an eminent professor of psychology who believes that humans have immaterial rational souls, rather than believing that the human mind is identical to the human brain. Another thing that the person you're talking to might say is that what she or he had in mind was artificial contraception involving the use of condoms. So what could you do at this point? Presumably, you'd have to appeal to something like the view that any sexual activity that does not aim at reproduction is wrong - indeed seriously wrong, and according to Catholic teaching, quite possibly a mortal sin - assuming that certain easily satisfied conditions are satisfied. Now, however, you're appealing to a view that you will find harder to convince anyone of than the view that you started out with - the view that artificial contraception is morally wrong, since among sexual activities that do not aim at conception is masturbation. This will be a somewhat harder sell since you're now faced with convincing the other person that if his or her teenage child masturbates, he or she may well have committed a mortal since, and if your teenage child happens to get killed in an automobile accidence while driving off to church to ask for forgiveness, they may very well have a one-way ticket to suffering eternally in Hell. What I've described is the form that an open and honest conversation between two people would take on any topic, including the question of the moral status of contraception. Kevin Robert's recommendation in this lecture is clearly very different; it is a recommendation to be thoroughly dishonest in order to trick people into sharing your beliefs. Has Kevin Roberts no sense of shame?

Since you said to keep telling the truth, if you don't wanna go to hell for having an abortion, don't have one. If you think making abortion illegal keeps people from going to hell or having abortions, think again. People have to spend more to go to another state to have an abortion, have the baby they may not be able to afford and don't want to send children to a system that fails children daily (and Catholics have done for centuries [I didn't want to go there but you said say the truth], or risk death with cost hanger abortions or the like. So in the greatest Republic in the world, you want more poor people, more children thrown into abusive situations, and if they aren't going to be poor, you'd prefer they end up dead. That's what a great Republic looks like? Your great Republic is only great for people who are like you and follow your path and your morals. America is great because we can peacefully grow together despite our disagreements and express and act upon our beliefs in peace and harmony individually. The more diverse we are, the more perspectives, experiences, and abilities we all grow from. Getting everyone to fit in your tiny little box is like taking a baby whale and putting it in the local swimming pool, chemicals and all. You don't understand what you're talking about. Get out of your circle, take some time off to travel the world (you have enough money), live in poor societies with various backgrounds. Support them, listen to them, share your thoughts, but be open to theirs.
