Weirdly, Temu purchases have helped me define myself with un-branded consumerism. It's all stuff but with no name attached to it. Beautiful things that have no relevance outside the beauty they bring to my room, my fashion, and my self-expression

as someone who has always been in fandoms and internet culture growing up, i've also recently thought about the topic of this video. "who am i outside the things i consume?" so i'm really glad youtube recommended me this video (ironic cause it's a platform that benefits off of our attention and consumerism lol but i guess finding a balance is key but i digress) anyways, thank u so much for sharing your ideas !!! i've wondered so much about this and it didn't even occur to me to "list down my core values" so thank you for sharing that !!!! as a fellow journaler, that is definitely something i'm going to be doing now. i also love when you said we should read books about political theory and stuff we find interesting, i realized one of my core values might include beauty itself and so i would love to read more about aesthetics and how it plays a part in life, not in the shallow hyperconsumeristic sense but in a more natural & grounding way if that makes sense... i also recently came across a quote said by rick rubin “It’s all lies, back to nature the only truth!” - and i think that pairs well with your advice of being one w nature, it really does heal and show you that life is more than pixels on ur screen and comparing urself to random ppl u've never met i love this little corner of the internet that makes me ponder <3 off for a fruitful journaling session now wish you the bestest of days, kind stranger <3

I don’t usually comment on stuff but it seems like we’re on a similar journey with similar interests and you had a lot of lovely things to say! I’ve been really grappling with this subject as well, especially the commodification of subcultures like punk and metal like you said, which is completely the opposite of its integrity. It’s really frustrating but the ethics of punk really resonate with me and all I can really do is put my ass behind my own values despite what everyone else is doing, and try to find people who do this as well. Something that made a huge difference in my life was separating myself from social media, it sounds like deleting TikTok was great for you as well. It’s truly exhausting seeing nonstop advertising and there’s such a huge world out there that we don’t have to miss out on! Personally I’ve found a lot of fulfillment after deleting all my social media and switching to a flip phone. It’s kind of forced me to find different ways of connecting with people and there’s so much out there that I would’ve never found. It’s become a hobby of mine to basically go through life like I’m in 2007 lol, like I started a KZbin and I also found communities of people who make their own personal websites just for fun, I think it’s a really cool way to kind of reclaim the internet and use it as a means of expression/connection without feeling the need to participate in an algorithm that feeds off our consumption. I just thought I’d mention this bc based on your style and outlook on life I think it might interest you. I really love all the videos you’ve posted as well, I’ve been wanting to make videos like that where I just talk about what interests me or the thoughts I’ve been having and I found a lot of inspiration through them, I wish there was more of that in the world/on the internet and it makes me happy to see people creating for creation’s sake. I’m glad you came up on my feed, I just subscribed and I can’t wait to hear more of what you have to say!

For half an year I've been on this journey of self discovery and I can't help but keep wondering what it is that I really want. One of my core values is showing interest in things and learning to see the world through different lenses, to actually see it more and understand it better. But what is it that I am really interested about? Sometimes I feel as though I just want to be an interesting person spouting funfacts about things instead of deeply caring and researching about them. Maybe I just want to be seen as an interested and interesting person, so I fear that I can't live up to my own value of actually being interested in the world. This might also be tied to me struggling with feeling my emotions, like this spark of excitement you feel when you find something interesting and this pull you feel toward researching it or just pondering over it. Maybe this is just nonsense and I'm taking this whole thing wayy too seriously but yeah, maybe someone has or has had a similar experience and might help me understand this
@arinozo

I've been feeling so similarly strange and fraudulent. I've had such a difficult time understanding who I am. How I exist outside of years of people pleasing and anxious thinking. It's that whole thing of "who are you when no one's watching. What is it that brings me genuine excitement and fulfillment, and why do I feel the constant need to entertain. I want to know more, experience all I can, but I still can't seem to answer the question of what and why.

"I have this weird trait that I want every thing and value to materialize and merge into my character" this is the literal quote from my diary from yesterday (which would be the date of this video publication). This is so weird that we simultaneously had similar idea, and I live on (judging from your accent) on the other side of the world. It is also very ironic that youtube algorithm (which is made because for consumerism purposes) have recommended me your video. Anyway, keep it up!

This just got me out of such a funk. You change and grow constantly, but you're always going to be uniquely yourself. Your identity can only grow and strengthen when you remember that it's your life to live. + Realizing that its never that serious You can still have volition and a passion for something without fully realizing who you are yet. And actively living your life, not just letting it happen, makes existing so much easier, because your purpose is to LIVE. (dunno if this is making any sense at all or if im just spewing jibbery nonsense but JUST LIVE YOUR LIFE BEACUSE YOU CAN AND ITS WHATEVER YOU MAKE OF IT 🫵)

It does feel like the world that we live in is programmed to be a ticking clock as you get closer and closer to death, and I suppose a lot of people are uncertain or afraid of death which doesn't help. If it feels like there is a deadline then you can become overwhelmed and instead of spending that time "well" (reading ect) you distract yourself from it instead, by things like doom scrolling (like you said!) I guess it's a human thing and maybe normalising death will help in overcoming this. Anyway I love your hair and outfit, you look awesome!
