you must have deformed hands, i have the complete opposite issue with interlocking. it's the overlapping grip that makes my right hand too strong 🤔

The interlock is not the problem. The problem is the alignment of your hands on the club. The more to the back of your stance that the v's of your thumb and pointer finger are facing, the stronger the grip and the more likely you are to hook. Those v's should point roughly to your back shoulder with minor adjustment to accommodate how you hit the ball, but very minor. How you grip the club; interlock, overlap, standard, will not produce a hook or a slice on their own.
@curtishughesgolf9678
@curtishughesgolf9678 2 жыл бұрын
The grip style can create the alignment on the club which then if not matched up with a swing style to match can create any shot shape.
@PawPawGreg
@PawPawGreg 2 жыл бұрын
@@curtishughesgolf9678 The grip "style" will not affect the shot shape. The STRENGTH or WEAKNESS of the grip will affect the shot. Literally any grip style can easily be used for any shot shape.

Could it be that focusing on a small point gets your conscious mind distracted so that the subconscious can execute the shot?

Not so sure that is true. I have always used an interlock grip and my biggest problem is slicing. I barely hook the ball at all
@curtishughesgolf9678
@curtishughesgolf9678 2 жыл бұрын
If your grip is too strong, it can cause both. Too much release - hook. No release - slice. Basically difficult to hit the ball straight consistently

The big problem is that Tiger and Jack used this grip and I have since I was 7 and I am now 65 and never hooked.
@curtishughesgolf9678
@curtishughesgolf9678 2 жыл бұрын
The point is how much you interlock. You can still interlock and have a “neutral” grip - tiger/jack/you It’s when you interlock so much that your right hand sits in a strong position- that’s when there is a potential for hooks

@@curtishughesgolf9678 I’ve used and tried the other gripping styles, interlocking provides the most secure and consistent results for me. My grip is also neutral, and I’m a straight hitter. No drawing or fading, just playing what the wind does.

In terms of the 'pre-set position', this video is probably just 25 years BEHIND the video put out by Nick Faldo/David Leadbetter.....and in terms of the 'freeze' drill TW with Butch Harmon it was TW stopping at the top of the backswing...good drills nonetheless.

@curtishughesgolf9678
@curtishughesgolf9678 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on how deep it is can make your decision.. the club choice can help.. an 8 iron is easier to get the ball out than a 5.. if it’s a wedge shot you need a steeper angle of attack so put more weight on your front foot for a descending blow (70/30 left foot)

@curtishughesgolf9678
@curtishughesgolf9678 4 жыл бұрын
Swing tempo is an personal thing and can be dictated by how fast you walk or if you’ve had a busy day! I think tempo comes from putting all the other pieces together... I’ll put it down for a video to film 👍

Really good video. I struggled with a fade/power fade for years. It would be amplified if I was under pressure, or facing a tough/tight tee shot. To try and counteract the left->right shape I would aim further left, and end up pulling across the ball even more and making the shot shape even worse. Its so hard for a 'slicer' to move club path right. It seems so counter intuitive to move club path right when we are trying to stop the ball going right. Understanding club-path has really helped, and I can now draw/fade the ball when the situation dictates what shot shape is needed.

Happens to a lot of people - you want to swing away from your bad shot which only exaggerates it even more! Really good that your able to play the shot both ways. Allows you to have more shots in the bag!
