76 year old retired mechanic here. Sir, those lugs are way too tight! Trust me, because of carelessness, I have seen many, many normal wheel removal became real nightmares. Broken lug bolts, stripped threads etc. My advice, please make sure your tire installers torque them to specified ft.lbs. Otherwise you’ll end up having a bad day.!!! You’ll thank me later. Cheers!

Thanks for making the video. Ive been thinking along these lines. Im thinking of using one of rhese engines to build a small single seater car. I was thinking about the possibility of deleting some of the sump and the drive shaft that runs under the engine. Id then turn the engine round and have a direct drive to the gearbox.

Yep great engine. What entrigued me the most was wondering how much more power it would have without all the weight. The longetivity of these engines has much to do with the gearing, it sits comfortably at speed with very low revs.

Finding the right bolts is a problem when it's been disassembled for a while, I'm having a problem finding the right bolts for the Kawasaki. That tool you made will get used again I reckon. I think the trailer needs to have the wheel exactly where it would be on a bug, maybe a baja style same as the bug towing it
@bruceaskin9645

Cant really move the wheels, they are positioned for tow stability. I have towed with and without a load and it works good. The guards themselves will be tricky. Going to join the front rear half with the rear half of the opposite side rear, so they are wide enough . The whole side of trailer bug shell will have to be re made, probably using half of the roof, so that it has a curvature. Will be using bug tail lights also.

You can still have the collection bottle/pot lower than the nipple if you use a long pipe, just make sure it has a curve in it higher than the nipple, then any bubbles will rise to the curve and not go around it. I like the idea of putting grease on the thread, I've always been worried air would get back round it if loose. I've used a stick (broom handle) in the past, push the brake pedal down with it and jam it against the seat backrest so it stays down, then tighten the nipple up.

Not to mention wheel nuts/bolts are designed with a taper. There's no need to excessively tighten them.

I remember a sign out the front of a tyre joint saying: we tighten your wheel nuts by hand. The service manual to my Fiat had torque figures on the wheel nuts/bolts too. This is clearly important... that is to not drastically over-tighten them. As you very well point out.

The local shop that did mine torqued to twice OEM torque with an air tool. Businesses are just happy to have sober or non drug addicted employees. Over torqueing wheels is too trivial for them.

Happens all the time here in UK. I recently watched one monkey at a local well known tyre chain refit wheels to a customers car. Firstly he zapped them up as tight as he could with the air gun. Then in line with co policy he got the torque wrench and seemed surprised when it clicked off without moving the nuts, so he gave them an extra half turn with his body weight to be sure! I always take the wheels off my cars at home and take them to have tyres fitted in the boot of another car, then bring them home to refit myself and torque correctly. Also amazing how few “ professional” tyre fitters know what the coloured dots on new tyres mean and how to use the to align the tyre on the rim for best balancing.
@bruceaskin9645
@bruceaskin9645 25 күн бұрын
Another thing they regularly do is under inflate the tyres. That fairlane is a very heavy car, and I drive it hard on country roads.I run 38 psi on the front ( V8) and 36 on the rear.Its not uncommon to find only 32 psi and the car all over the road. 32 is what I put in the front tyres of my bug.

I am hearing you Bro. Last week i had a flat tyre and used my battery operated rattle gun which always does the job but the tyre fitters a year ago had done the nuts done up super tight and it was a no go. I carry a breaker bar with an extention bar to fit over it and only use impact sockets so they thankfully did the job. I totally agree with you. There is no need to do them up that tight.

Nice video. Was always second guessing with different vehicles and trailers. So, some months ago, I decided to invest in a 1/2" torque wrench. Takes a little longer, but there is nothing like piece of mind. In saying that, the local Tyre dealership I go to actually use impact drivers. Yes, they do, but they also finish the tightening sequence with a high-end torque/tension wrench as well. Even the experienced fitters use them now too. Thanks for sharing.

Cool, I never thought of putting the bottle higher, make sense. My problem is it wont stay on the nipple unless I put a hose clamp on it, I open it and push the pedal down and put the jack handle between the pedal and the seat then close the nipple
@bruceaskin9645
@bruceaskin9645 27 күн бұрын
The bottle was only high because I didnt have a long enough hose. The whole purpose of the hose running up is to keep the air away from the nipple so it cant be drawn back into the system.

It's hard to prove manipulation, we make an observation and conclude that it doesn't seem normal but how can we prove that something or someone is doing it to manipulate the weather? I think we need to avoid making claims and instead ask questions, because we need to back up our "claims" with factual evidence
@bruceaskin9645
@bruceaskin9645 Ай бұрын
That depends on who you are trying to prove it too. There is enough evidence to know they are doing this and why. Is it enough to stand up in a court of law , where charges have to be laid against certain people , that would be a little more difficult, but not entirely impossible. There are American states and other countries that have made laws banning weather modification. That in itself shows there is legal evidence.

@ This was in the Guardian in April 2002 The Ministry of Defence turned large parts of the country into a giant laboratory to conduct a series of secret germ warfare tests on the public. A government report just released provides for the first time a comprehensive official history of Britain's biological weapons trials between 1940 and 1979. Many of these tests involved releasing potentially dangerous chemicals and micro-organisms over vast swaths of the population without the public being told. While details of some secret trials have emerged in recent years, the 60-page report reveals new information about more than 100 covert experiments. The report reveals that military personnel were briefed to tell any 'inquisitive inquirer' the trials were part of research projects into weather and air pollution. The tests, carried out by government scientists at Porton Down, were designed to help the MoD assess Britain's vulnerability if the Russians were to have released clouds of deadly germs over the country. In most cases, the trials did not use biological weapons but alternatives which scientists believed would mimic germ warfare and which the MoD claimed were harmless. But families in certain areas of the country who have children with birth defects are demanding a public inquiry. One chapter of the report, 'The Fluorescent Particle Trials', reveals how between 1955 and 1963 planes flew from north-east England to the tip of Cornwall along the south and west coasts, dropping huge amounts of zinc cadmium sulphide on the population. The chemical drifted miles inland, its fluorescence allowing the spread to be monitored. In another trial using zinc cadmium sulphide, a generator was towed along a road near Frome in Somerset where it spewed the chemical for an hour. While the Government has insisted the chemical is safe, cadmium is recognised as a cause of lung cancer and during the Second World War was considered by the Allies as a chemical weapon.

Just got caught up on your videos. The rewind clutch cover pops off, it's a light press fit. I use a thin screwdriver and lightly tap at the joint. There are ball bearings inside that escape so be ready. Inspect them for rust, assemble dry with no lube. The hole in the top is to lube a wick with light oil. That migrates down and lubes the shaft. All starter clutches on briggs interchange, a mower one will work. 1 boss broken off won't hurt. That coil is pretty rugged, but can be upgraded to electronic. A mower one will interchange 99% of the time. New, the part number was 398811, it's been superseded to a number I don't recall. I wouldn't trust that head gasket, by the way it looks it's metal clad asbestos. The asbestos gets loose and may blow out at temp and under a load. If you dive into the carb, the brass nozzle under the needle needs to come out before you seperate the halves. You've got a good looking fixer upper for sure. Check out Taryl Fixes All's channel. He's got a couple rewind how to's on his projects and I belive he did an 8 hp carburetor overhaul. Hope this helps you, like the Holden project too.
