Make sure you buy some good chrome vinyl, hopefully the heat from the light won’t effect the adhesive

Rather than using a torch on smaller fasteners, try an electric soldering iron. Hold the tip flat against the fastener and the heat will conduct to the threads, it doesn't take a lot of heat to soften Loctite, the bonus is you won't set fire to anything.

Pretty easily lined up as it’s cab chassis firstly if the cab mounts are not all rusted out and the chassis is lined with the cab proper and you have the walk off front end on proper and then you gap from the doors forward including the bonnet to the wipper box .. to do the wipper box proper you replace the whole top and bottom panels and while it’s removed you repair the rust in the front A pillars then you gap it all again and tack weld the new wiper box panels in the right spot old holdens and fords have heaps of adjustment you back yard dudes have no idea how to actually rebuild a car proper and you can buy most replacement panels for Hq j x z wB

@michaelbyrnes7944 the doors don't fit the cab period. The cab behind the driver's door window was incorrect from factory. You line up doors and bonnet to the cab, then the guards etc line up to them . I know how it's done, I've been driving this for close to 30 years. Utes, vans and toners are all HQ ,they were never updated with the sedans. Doors are WB Statesman. Buying panels is great if you can afford it. I am on a disability pension, have 3 other vehicles to maintain, a mortgage and 3 disabled children. I do what I can afford. I took me 2 years to save up for a new quarter panel, which didn't fit properly anyway, would have been better to get a chopped one from the wreckers. Did you actually watch the video or or make a know it all comment from the headline. It's a long way from finished, but when it is, it will look better than original and have zero rust.

I have used heat to remove bolts with locktite for years.
@PaulG.x
@PaulG.x 3 күн бұрын
Don't bother heating the item the fastener screws into. Heat the fastener. The smaller contact area along the thread acts as thermal insulation so the fastener can heat up relatively quickly and the threadlocker will soften and allow the fastener to be loosened. The threadlocker will harden if the heat is removed. I removed the 30mm nut that retains the clutch basket a motorcycle gearbox input shaft using just the flame of a small pocket gas torch. I just played the flame on the nut and it came off easily after 5 minutes heating. The threadlocker was red permanent grade. You only need to heat the screw up to 250 ℃ to soften the threadlocker (even the high temperature types). Avoid over heating the fastener and softening it. I have had similar results loosening machine screws just heating the screw head.

@michaelnoble2432 2 күн бұрын
Good idea to heat the fastener (not the workpiece), but wouldn't it be best to replace the fastener? It would be pretty easy to reduce the strength, particularly of a 12.9 grade bolt.

I had same issues with my Ute. . I found the top of door window receiver had flattened off and require putting a bit more curve . Then I put my porta power in window frame and very slightly stretched the top rear back . I reckon at some time the doors were stored on their back edge and that had caused the doors to change the window opening shape. Once the diagonal stretch was made every thing lined up except for the bottom edge to sill. But it was ok to live with.

Yes I did , There are about 10 more video's on the process, plus lots of other mods etc on my channel. you do realise you will require another gearbox. I used a type 3 gearbox and rear end. The type 3 also has larger drum brakes with, removable drums. I didnt use the brakes initially because they were too rusted , but today I got some better ones, and will be fitting them soon. On my last video I lifted it to the maximum height I could achieve and altered shockie mounts and bump stops. As far as gloves go, they are dangerous, if you catch the glove on the wheel, it takes your hand with it! But my opinion only! I never had dramas! Always respect power tools! I always made sure it was switched off before plugging in also! I’ve seen blokes not checking and they are like cut snakes!

I replaced the top cowling but luckily the plenum wasn’t in too bad shape. Coated plenty of sealant where the air intake holes are as well. Glad that’s all a distant memory now, the drilling out of the spot welds was a pain.

As you mentioned you cut the door along the crease to match the line. So cut the door straight threw the centre in half. Line up the bottom to sit perfect measure up the top half, trim off the excess and weld it back up. That's my opinion. 😊
