:) Sorry about that! This was one of my first videos on KZbin, and when I rendered it it sounded a bit louder than I would have liked, but not objectionable... and then I uploaded it to KZbin and my goodness, something happened because it sounds so different than I remember..! Oh, well, I've been learning and working on the sound on later videos... Thanks for watching!

My uncle had a LUV, which I guess was an acronym for "Light Utility Vehicle"... my uncle loved it! I especially liked that they had a 4x4 version of it before Datsun and (I think) Toyota. The Toyota 4x4 I think came out in '78 and the Datsun first came out in the '80 or '81 720 but I swear his LUV was a '76. Someone may correct me on this.

Reminds me somewhat of my 1983 Ford Ranger (first year for it here in US) in the simplicity --which I had with 4 cylinder, no-a/c, no power steering, no a/t (4 speed manual), slide type heater/defroster cables, no cruise control, a basic bench seat, & only rwd not 4 x4. With 2wd & a 285 lb insulated semi-camper top mounted putting weight over the rear, it went surprisingly well through the snow with the skinny 195/75 size (I think!) real rear snow tires I put on it for Winter here in the north.

Yeah, prior to that Ford had a Mazda-built Courier and when they saw how many people would buy a smaller truck they jumped in and designed their own Ford Ranger. Wish they still made some basic trucks now, something you can fix yourself and is affordable!

Thanks for the tour of your 620......My dad had a 1978 620 king cab (a big deal back in the late 70's) 2wd. Bright Orange with black fiberglass fender flares. 60 series Cragar aluminum wheels. Sunroof. A cap on the back of the bed. All the bells and whistles of the time.... Someone had loaded it up with custom parts and then lost it (probably a repo) and dad bought it from a local used car dealer that he knew. To a 14-year-old like me that truck was the coolest. ride. ever. It had everything but AC and when we moved to Florida.... a truck with no AC and an un-tinted sunroof.... well. It got sold off. Sadly, just months before I decided to head to college and could have used a good reliable truck......Oh well. (Maybe that's why all my Nissan trucks sit on super wide BF Goodrich TA's

Yeah, I think part of the point I was trying to make is that our Toyotas aren't as fuel-efficient as people might think; they are efficient, to be sure, but not amazing. I remember seeing some classified ads for Dolphins, Sunraders, etc where people claim they were getting 20-25MPG, and that is simply not realistic. I think your MPG's are great, and passing power is probably abundant!

Hey thanks for video. We have a 1990 winnebago 19ft 3.0 w/ 5 speed manual We have recorded about 4,000 miles of records. We got 16.3 mpg average on long trips with as high as 19mpg. Around town for a couple trips we got 12-14 mpg. I got the best mileage when i could get it in 5th gear for a while. And stayed 60 and below. If i got above 60 mileage went down a bit. Cross Wind has also been my most significant driving challenge. Have fun

1980 is when the 720 series trucks came into existance. That's also when the name was changed as the tailgates said Datsun by Nissan, or Nissan by Datsun. They always were Nissan, however the name Datsun sold much better in the United States than the name Nissan. Once 1980 hit, that's exactly when the name Datsun was eventually eliminated and from then onward, it was called Nissan. After the 720 series, the D 21 series Hardbody took over, after the D 21 series Hardbody design, then the current day Frontier is now the new nameplate of the Nissan trucks, WHICH is a product of Ford Motor Corporation. Case in point, the Mercury Villiger is a Nissan Quest, and in 1990, the Ford Motor Corporation brought the Nissan Z engine off of Nissan and installed that very same engine in some of their Ford Ranger trucks and Mazda trucks.

I really like that description. Most people understand that to mean "having very little or no power", which is true - it only has 151HP and that's a very low power-to-weight ratio. I looked up the actual definition and it actually means "lacking courage or determination", which, if the Dolphin was a person, would be antithetical, since it's been all over the country, from Seattle to Miami, the two farthest points in the continental US. But I really like words (as you can see in my thumbnails) that have different meanings than what people expect, so I really like this word, I'll probably use it in a future video. I appreciate you watching!

No, the 620 was not offered by Datsun in 4x4. It was first offered as a 4x4 in the next generation, the 720. This one was converted by a SoCal company that did a few of them back in the 70's.

@fourthgearchannel
@fourthgearchannel 2 ай бұрын
Back in the 90's Toyota decided that the US needed a truck made just for the US and the Tacoma was born. Up until that time the Hilux was the Toyota most countries received, and in the US we only knew it as the Toyota Pickup or Toyota Truck, no special name (like the Camry, Corolla, etc...) The Hilux is the Toyota most other countries see whereas the Tacoma is only for the US market.
